On the afternoon of July 1, 2022, the 3rd lecture of IN TALK, China-Singapore Dialogue-Special session for top-notched CNS speakers, was held online. Wang Xiaomeng, tenured associate professor from Duke-NUS Medical School and Director of Singapore Eye Research Institute, was invited to give a lecture. Professor She Junjun, Assistant-to-President, Professor Guo Hui, Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology, Associate Researcher Tu Kangsheng, Deputy Director of Clinical Research Center, Associate Researcher Yang Qi, Deputy Director of Department of ENT, Associate Researcher Qu Kai, Deputy Director of Biobank, Associate Researcher Wang Jichang from Department of Vascular Surgery and Ren Hui, Deputy Director of International Exchange Office attended the event, which was chaired by Deputy Director Ren Hui.

First, Ren Hui introduced the background significance, speaker and guests of IN TALK serial activities, and expressed gratitude to the experts attending the event. She also highlighted that this online connection with Professor Wang Xiaomeng is a continuation of substantive cooperation between two sides after Professor Wang visited FAH, hoping to learn advanced scientific research experience via this online connection.

Subsequently, Professor Wang Xiaomeng systematically illustrated her team’s 10-year research results in a lecture entitled Translational research in fibrovascular complications. In 2013, Professor Wang Xiaomeng published an article entitled LRG1 promotes angiogenesis by modulating endothelial TGF-β signaling in Nature, which, for the first time, systematically reported the role of LRG1 in human body, as the regulatory rod of TGF-β signaling pathway in vascular endothelium, and switched it to the direction of promoting vascular dysplasia.

Subsequently, Professor Wang Xiaomeng's team found that LRG1 plays an important role in more than 10 types of diseases, such as cardiac fibrosis, metabolic diseases, cancer and immune diseases, etc. As a mediator of TGF-β signaling pathway, identifying the role of LRG1 in various diseases is of significance for drug research and development based on the TGF-β signaling pathway.

After the lecture, all participants conducted in-depth discussion with Professor Wang Xiaomeng from their respective research fields. Experts hoped that taking this lecture as an opportunity of this lecture, bilateral sides can carry out more in-depth international exchanges and cooperation in scientific research from different models and different disease spectra.

Finally, Ren Hui concluded that the construction of National Medical Center is being fully launched, hoping that scientific researchers can actively contact with experts in related fields at home and abroad, and deeply integrate clinical and basic disciplines, promote the integration of engineering medicine disciplines, take advantages of disciplinary strength, and create major scientific research findings in related fields.
