In 2015, the first department of structural cardiology in China was established in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, with professor Zhang Yushun, a famous interventional cardiology expert, one of the founders of interventional cardiology in China and vice Presidentof Cardiovascular Hospital, as the department director. There are 38 medical staff now, including 4 chief physicians, 1 deputy chief physician and 6 attending physicians.

The department is mainly responsible for the treatment of various structural heart diseases, characterized by drug, interventional and internal and surgical treatment. The main technologies include drugs, intervention (balloon dilation, stent implantation, etc.) and internal and surgical treatment of coronary heart disease, interventional occlusion (no operation for CHD) and internal and surgical treatment of CHD, interventional therapy for valvular disease, left atrial auricular occlusion to prevent stroke due to atrial fibrillation, unclosed foramen ovale to prevent abnormal embolism, cardiac (pacing) resynchronization therapy for heart failure, cardiac pacemaker therapy for arrhythmia, interventional treatment of aortic dissection and peripheral vascular diseases, accurate and targeted treatment of pulmonary embolism, pulmonary arterial hypertension, etc. The diagnosis and treatment technologies are leading in China, among which the interventional treatment of congenital heart disease ranks the world's advanced level, with more than 10,000 cases completed, creating many "first" at home and abroad.

The department is the conferral point of doctor's and master's degrees in cardiovascular specialty, and many doctoral and master's students has been cultivated here. It is a training base for clinical specialists in primary hospitals nationwide. At present, the department has undertaken a number of national natural science funds and provincial and ministerial scientific research funds. Not only the old professors with high prestige but young experts with doctor and master degree and sophisticated technology are in the team of the department. There are many senior professional returners from internationally renowned university.
