Health Leader-International Leadership Training Program for Public Hospitals in Western China successfully concludes

To promote the establishment of the concept of going global, deepen international cooperation and exchange and recruit overseas talents, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) officially launched the Health Leader-International Leadership Training Program for Public Hospitals in Western China. From September 29 to October 7, 2019, a delegation led by Ma Xinge, Secretary of the Party Committee of our hospital received focused training, discipline exchange and conducted featured events in Toronto, Canada. A total of 25 members mainly consisted of leaders of Grade I, II and III departments to apply for A-level discipline and high-level talents.

On the morning of September 30, a grand opening ceremony was launched at Schulick School of Business of York University in Toronto, Canada. The Counselor General of China in Toronto, leaders of York University and Schulick School of Business and representatives of Ontario Ministry of Health attended the program and delivered speeches. Secretary Ma Xinge made a keynote speech.

From September 30 to October 4, focused courses were conducted every morning regarding five themes of health policy, discipline construction, talent training, quality and safety and management tools. Professor Joseph Mapa, Visiting Professor of Schulick School of Business and Executive Director of Medical Management Project, Professor Sandra, Chief Operating Officer of Sinai Health Group and Member of Board of Directors of health center of local community and Professor Maureen, Vice President of Faculty of Medicine of University of Toronto delivered the lectures. The attendees actively asked questions and shared feelings and experiences in combination with their daily work.

The delegation successively visited multiple hospitals and conducted discipline exchange every afternoon. Specifically, they paid a thorough visiting to Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Global Surgery Center, Princess Margaret Hospital, The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Diabetes Mellitus Center of University of Toronto, St. Michael’s Medical Center, Research Center of Mount Sinai Hospital and 14 advantageous disciplines and specialties in Toronto West Hospital, including lung transplantation, kidney disease, infection, imaging, psychiatry, digestion, pediatrics, diabetes mellitus, hematological tumor, interventional therapy, cardiovascular disease, neurology, gynecology and general surgery. Twelve disciplines, such as cardiology and neurosurgery, have reached a consensus of cooperation with the Canadian counterparts, obtaining essential resources for the long-term development of these disciplines.

On the afternoon of October 4, our hospital and Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada jointly held the 1st Featured Event of the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU in conjunction with “Integration & Talent” China-Canada Medical Exchange Forum in St. Michael’s Hospital affiliated to University of Toronto. Gao Pengfei, Science and Technology Counselor of the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, Qian Jinqiu, Consul of the Science and Technology Section of the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, Liu Mingyao, Director of Faculty of Medicine of University of Toronto, Mitze Mourinho, Chairman of the Foundation of East Toronto General Hospital, James Swan, Chairman of Ontario Association of Cardiologists, Allen, Chief Executive of Schulick School of Business of York University and other guests attended the forum. More than 150 representatives from University of Toronto and affiliated hospitals, Schulick School of Business, Chinese-American Bio/Pharmaceutical Society and XJTU Alumni Association participated the featured event. President Liu Mingyao, Chairman Mitze Mourinho, President Swan of Ontario Association of Cardiologists, and Professor Ni Heyu from University of Toronto delivered keynote speeches, respectively. Yu Jun and Li Lei, high-level talents of our hospital gave academic presentations. Our hospital also signed strategic cooperation agreement with Bethune Medical Development Association of Canada and Executive Education Center of Shurik School of Business of York University. She Junjun, Assistant to President delivered a comprehensive introduction of the talent policy of our hospital.
