On the afternoon of April 7, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) conducted online communication with Faculty of Health and Medicine of Lancaster University in UK, jointly discussing the direction of future development and cooperation. Ms. Caroline Swarbrick, senior lecturer and head of international cooperation project of Health Research Center of Faculty of Health and Medicine in Lancaster University, Professor Nancy Preston, majoring in supportive and palliative care, Sophie Lu, Director of China Affairs of International Office, Jinghan Wang, Director of China office, Ren Hui, Deputy Director of International Exchange Office of our hospital, Associate Professor Wang Jin from Department of Neurology, and Li Chenlu of Nursing Department attended the video connection. The online activity was chaired by Deputy Director Ren Hui.

First of all, Ren Hui introduced the participants of our hospital. She hoped that through this exchange, bilateral sides can deepen mutual understanding and jointly explore the possibility of further cooperation in medical, teaching and research fields. In addition, she was full of confidence and expectation for bilateral cooperation.

Subsequently, Ms. Caroline Swarbrick introduced the doctoral program of mixed learning in Lancaster University, hoping that this program could lay foundation for international training of medical talents and international cooperative teaching between two sides. Professor Nancy Preston highlighted the role of Health Research Center in the advantageous disciplines, including dementia, COVID-19 model, interdisciplinary study and palliative care, hoping to carry out international cooperative research with our hospital.

Then, Associate Professor Wang Jin and Li Chenlu shared the development and characteristics of respective disciplines, and delivered in-depth discussion with Lancaster University on continuing education, talent training, inter-hospital communication and international scientific research collaboration. Both sides fully exchanged suggestions and ideas.

Finally, Jinghan Wang, Director of China Office of Lancaster University, stressed that bilateral sides will organize sub-professional scholars and administrators according to the highlights of this online discussion, conduct in-depth thematic exchanges in the form of online seminars and deliver in-depth exchange regarding the areas of cooperation between two sides, aiming to implement concrete international cooperation between bilateral sides.
