KHARTOUM, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese doctor in Sudan has successfully cured a local patient with complicated sciatic nerve through traditional acupuncture therapy, the 34th group of China medical assistance team to Sudan told Xinhua on Tuesday.

A 20-year-old Sudanese patient, who was suffering from persistent pain in the left buttock and lower extremity caused by an improper operation of intramuscular injection in a local clinic two months ago, went to the Omdurman Friendship Hospital of Sudan on July 17.

After the inquiries and physical inspection, the patient was diagnosed with severe injury of sciatic nerve and the muscles of the whole left lumbosacral and hip. Her left lower extremity are abnormally stiff and adhere to the surrounding soft tissues.

According to the patient's medical condition, Chinese doctor Cui Yanchao formulated a treatment plan combining acupuncture therapy and active physical function training.

Considering the long journey and inconvenience for the patient to come to the hospital, Cui also patiently taught the patient a simple training method and massage techniques.

After three weeks of treatment, the patient's pain was significantly alleviated and her left lower extremity joint activities were significantly improved. She was able to walk easily.

The patient and her family expressed thanks to the Chinese doctors for their professional skills and devotion to their career.

"Although it's hard and tired to be an acupuncturist to provide assistance for a foreign country, I feel very gratified and proud to be able to promote Chinese medicine and relieve the suffering of the Sudanese people," Cui said.
