From May 15 to 18, the International Liver Transplantation Society (2019 ILTS) 25th Annual International Congress was grandly held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Canada. Five attending physicians including Tian Min, Zhang Chun, Wang Wenjing, Guo Kun and Shi Jianhua from Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University were invited to participate in the congress for poster presentation.
More than 1,200 scientific researchers and clinical professionals in the field of liver transplantation from over 50 countries attended the annual congress, which is the largest gathering in the field of liver transplantation this year. Chen Zhaolong, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and a Professor of Xi’an Jiaotong University, delivered a keynote speech highlighting the recent progress on the living donor liver transplantation in Asia.
The 2019 ILTS Annual Congress consists of more than 60 professional academic conferences, over 800 abstracts of original research, more than 200 oral presentations, over 600 poster presentations and 300 electronic poster presentations. Experts attending the congress introduced the latest experiments and viewpoints of mechanical liver perfusion. Research groups from all over the world shared the latest research progress on the peribiliary gland (PBG). Dr. Hirose proposed that the parameters for evaluating the quality of liver transplantation overweigh the survival rate of liver grafts and patients. Professor Milind Javle predicted the research hotspots on new drugs for transplant oncology in the next few years. Professor Xia Qiang from Renji Hospital in Shanghai illustrated the novel progress on the pediatric living donor liver transplantation in China. Experts from different countries introduced the long-term survival experience and latest research progress on pediatric liver transplantation.
