The 2018 Annual Meeting of the 16th Urological Association of Asia (UAA) was held in Tokyo, Japan, from April 17 to April 22, 2018. Over 1,000 experts and scholars of urinary surgeon from many countries in the Asia-Pacific Region such as Japan, South Korea, China, India, Pakistan, Iran and Australia participated in the meeting. Zhu Guodong and Yang Lin, associate chief physicians of the Urinary Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, participated in the meeting. They exhibited their multiple clinical research achievements on the display boards and conducted oral exchange on them. They also reported their achievements at the parallel sessions and attracted high attention of the domestic and foreign peers. Their clinical research achievements are mainly the research achievements in robotic nephron-sparing surgery for complicated renal cancer, robotic repair of vesicovaginal fistula and shockwave therapy for male erectile dysfunction.

Urinary surgery has been listed as a national key discipline and a key specialty of the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China for many years. The Urological Disease Clinic Research Center of Shaanxi Province has been paying high attention to “subspecialty development” and “basic and clinical study” for years. Since 2007, with the help of the subsidies of universities and hospitals for participating in high level international meeting, the discipline and many young physicians have participated in the highest-level international urinary surgery meetings such as the annual meeting of the European Association of Urology (EAU), the annual meeting of the American Urological Association (AUA), the annual meeting of the Society for Basic Urologic Research (SBUR) and the World Congress of Endourology for many consecutive years. They have been invited to make podium presentations at the parallel sessions for many times, which have fully demonstrated the high international academic influence of the hospital in urinary surgery.
