The 2018 Annual Meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) was held in Hawaii from April 29 to May 3, 2018. As the largest and highest-level top gathering of eye and vision researchers in the world, the ARVO meeting attracts the attention of the global ophthalmology researchers every year. At the academic meeting leading the ophthalmology research front, the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University achieved many good results. Nine employees of the hospital have participated in the meeting at the invitation of the organizer, including 2 delivering their speeches and 7 conducting wall poster exchange at the meeting. Among the invited hospitals in Northwest China, the number of the meeting participants of the First Affiliated Hospital is the most.

The cataract research group led by Chief Physician Pei Cheng was invited to deliver two speeches respectively delivered by Assistant Research Fellow Ma Bo and Doctor Jing Ruihua. They reported on their subject researches and their reports were highly evaluated by the chairman of the meeting and their ophthalmology fellows. In addition, the posters of some young key researchers such as Lei Jianqin, Liu Zhao and Gao Ning have been exhibited for exchange.

It can be found by observing the ARVO meeting that the Ophthalmology Department of the First Affiliated Hospital is gradually moving towards the world and learning from the ophthalmology development frontier of the world. The foundation and clinical scientific research of the department are becoming stronger and stronger. The dominant specialty of the department — cataract — is among the best in Shaanxi Province. The researches on some diseases such as fundi disease and keratonosus have rapidly developed and made a lot of achievements. Where there is a will, there is a way. Led by Director Qin Li, Director Pei Cheng and Party Secretary Kang Qianyan, the Ophthalmology Department has paid high attention to its scientific researches and made its clinical research development quickly with great achievements in recent years. Now the department is gradually becoming one of the top departments in Shaanxi Province.
