On the afternoon of August 2, on the invitation of Li Enxiao, Director of Medical Oncology Department of our hospital, and Deputy Director Yang Jin, Prof. Yi Min, blometrician at MD Anderson Cancer Center gave an academic report on the subject of statistical interpretation. This report is the 13th episode of academic activity “Lecture Room” on excellent academic platform of scientific and technology department in 2017. The report was co-hosted by Prof. Li Enxiao, Director of Medical Oncology Department and Prof. Yang Jin, Deputy Directorof Medical Oncology Department, and attended by Prof. He Jianjun, Director of Department of Breast Surgery, Prof. Yao Yu, Deputy Directorof Medical Oncology Department, Prof. Liu Peijun, Directorof Center for Translational Medicine, Prof. Wang Yawen, Director of eBiobank Center of our hospital, Prof. Geng Zhimin, Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, and young physicians from Cancer Center.

The academic report of Prof. Yi Min is titled “Understanding, reporting, interpreting statistical results”. During the process, she communicated with attenders through interactive Q&A mode, and specified how to interpret the charts in the literature, from basic distribution table of epidemiological characteristics to Cox multi-factor analysis model frequently used in survival analysis, from simple histogram to funny Nuomeng figure. She taught us how to capture the information shown in the figures and explained different statistical analysis techniques of different data types. Everyone had a lively discussion about how to establish a complete and effective database of cancer patients. Capitalizing on the practical experience accumulated from the period while she was abroad, she brought up a lot of valuable suggestions. The audience benefited a lot from this speech. Prof. Yang Jin, Deputy Director of Medical Oncology Department, made a summary of this academic report, and expressed the interest in refining the process of data reduction, disposal, and interpretation through further communication with international cancer center, thus strengthening the development of research work and interpretation of data based on effective management of clinical data, inspiring and helping clinical doctors in data management and analysis of clinical test.
