On August 17, 2017, Professor Paul Jones from UK and Professor Emilio Pizzichini from Brazil visited the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine of our hospital on invitation.
In the morning, the two professors visited the department and made excellent academic reports. Professor Paul systematically described the role of eosinophils in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and Professor Emilio gave a lecture on the progress of asthma airway inflammation detection techniques. The Symposium was lively broadcasted with Shaanxi Province respiratory medical union platform, and more than 30 units of the medical union in Shaanxi Province attended the academic exchange.


Professor Paul Jones is a professor of respiratory medicine in St George's, University of London, and also a world-renowned expect in the field of COPD. He developed St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ), COPD Assessment Test (CAT) and COPD Acute Exacerbation Card (EXACT); he also participated in and guided several COPD clinical studies. He is a member of ISOLDE and TORCH Research Steering Committee, and also an expert of GOLD Scientific Committee.
Professor Emilio Pizzichini is a professor of respiratory medicine in Federal University of Santa Catarina, and serves as the head of the Asthma and Airway Inflammation Center now. He mainly engages in the epidemiology and pathophysiology study and treatment for asthma and COPD, especially in induced sputum airway inflammation assessment and living quality survey. Professor Emilio is an expert of GINA Scientific Committee, and also the leader of Respiratory Effectiveness Group (REG) and former Chairman of Asthma Committee, Brazilian Respiratory Society.
