On September 4, 2017, Professor Rockey and Professor Shi of the Medical University of South Carolina came to our hospital for a visit and exchange.

As invited by Professor He Shuixiang, Director of the Gastroenterology Department, Professor Rockey and Professor Shi of the Medical University of South Carolina came to our hospital for a visit and made academic reports. Professor Rockey is a world famous clinical expert for treating hepatic diseases, and he serves as the Department Head and Professor of School of Medicine, the Medical University of South Carolina. He has made outstanding contributions to studies on the pathogenesis of liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Assistant Professor Shi serves as the assistant Professor in School of Medicine, the Medical University of South Carolina now, and he mainly engages in the study on pathogenesis of liver diseases.

In the morning, Professor Rockey and Professor Shi visited the Outpatient Building, Inpatient Department of Gastroenterology Department, and Digestive Endoscopy Cente. They also went to the Department of Pathology to conduct pathological radiograph reading for typical liver diseases. In the afternoon, both of the Professors respectively gave the excellent reports under the titles of “Progress in liver fibrosis pathogenesis and treatment”, “Molecular portal hypertension”, and “Actin cytoskeleton dynamics and liver fibrosis”. They highly affirmed and praised this academic exchange, and expected that they could have the opportunity to carry out a deeper level of communication. In addition, they sincerely invited our experts to visit The Medical University of South Carolina.

This academic activity is one of the overseas academic exchange programs of the Gastroenterology Department this year, which promoted the scientific research and international communication of our gastroenterology department, and further expressed the level of our diagnosis and treatment for digestive system diseases, especially the hepatic diseases. It also promoted our international influence in this specialty, and had profound significance in better mastering advanced trends of science and technology, and learning and referring to advanced scientific achievements abroad.
