On September 21, 2017, Professor Liu Lixin, Chairman of CASA and M.D. of Department of Anesthesiology, School of Medicine, the State University of New York, came to the Department of Anesthesiology of our hospitaland made an academic lecture.

In order to strengthen the anesthetic treatment during surgery for elderly patients by the medical staff of the Department of Anesthesiology, on the morning of September 21, 2017, Wang Qiang, Director of the Department of Anesthesiology, presided over a meeting, at which Professor Liu Lixin made a theme lecture named Anesthetic Treatment During Surgery for Elderly Patients, and all medical staff of the department attended the meeting.

Professor Liu Lixin first expressed with diagrams that elderly patients gradually occupied for a higher proportion in the anesthetic surgeries. Then he indicated the characteristics of elderly patients and risks of anesthesia, as well as the solutions in combination with the cases and clinical experience. In addition, he explained the specifications and precautions of medications during anesthesia for elderly patients. He further elaborated the international trend and future development of anesthetic treatment during surgery for elderly patients.

The lecture renewed the managerial knowledge of anesthesia for elderly patients during the perioperative period among medical staff of the department, and improved the understanding of the cutting-edge expertise and methods of operative anesthesia for the elderly patients, thus laying a good foundation for the department to develop new medical technologies about anesthesia for elderly patients.
