On August 10, Dr. Amish J. Desai, Director of Heart Disease and Structural Heart Medicine of Portland Legacy Health System, and his delegation went to our hospital for an academic exchange.
In order to further promote the innovation and development of cardiac-cerebral combination therapy, and bring benefit to more and more patients with atrial fibrillation, Professor Zhang Yushun, Director of Department of Structural Heart Disease of our hospital, invited Dr. Amish J. Desai, one of the first batch of experts engaging in research and development of LAAC and Director of Heart Disease and Structural Heart Medicine of Portland Legacy Health System, and his delegation to come to the hospital for an academic exchange.
Professor Zhang Yushun and Dr. Amish J. Desai worked together and successfully implemented the percutaneous left atrial appendage transcatheter occlusion (PLAATO) for 2 patients with atrial fibrillation. The great cooperation of these two experts of structural heart disease was highly praised bycolleaguesof the relevant departments who came to view the operations. After operations, all physicians of the Department of Structural Heart Disease made an in-depth discussion and exchange with Dr. Amish J. Desai on LAAC. In addition, Dr. Amish J. Desai gave the lectures “LAAC Indications in US” and “Tips and tricks during the Procedure, especially the Dr. Amish J. Desai deployment strategy of complicated cases”, to share his experience and techniques in preventing atrial fibrillation embolism with LAAC. Later, Dr. Lan Beidi, young talent of Professor Zhang Yushun’s team, made a case sharing, and discussed the problems of LAAC in clinical application with Dr. Amish J. Desai.
LAAC is a new trend of preventing embolism of patients with atrial fibrillation all over the world. Since the implementation of the first LAAC in Northwest China in December 2014, the Department of Structural Heart Disease has completed 50 cases of surgery, which enabled thedepartment to take a lead in the field of LAAC in Northwest China.
