The relationship between obesity, hyperlipidemia and Alzheimer's disease has been controversial. Recently, Wang Yanyu, a resident physician from Department of Neurology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and colleagues collected the clinical data of patients with cognitive decline from a longitudinal cohort, utilized the lipid accumulation product (LAP) to replace blood lipid level and body mass index, employed multiple statistical methods for repeated analyses and corrected multiple potential confounding factors, proving that patients with high LAP exhibit significant cognitive decline at the 4-year follow-up, which is affected by blood pressure level and sex. Nevertheless, such relationship was not observed in hypertension and male patients, suggesting that the relationship between obesity, hyperlipidemia and Alzheimer's disease may be affected by hypertension. Relevant research results have been published in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, an Area I journal of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the latest impact factor in 2021 was 5.750.

Wang Yanyu, a second-year resident physician from Department of Neurology of our hospital, is highly responsible for clinical work. She is the first to apply for rotation in Department of Neurology of east branch hospital. She grasped leisure time to perform literature review, carried out scientific research in combination with clinical work and obtained excellent performance, serving as an exemplary model for other resident physicians.
