On August 21, the 3rd Academic Conference on Combination of Medicine and Nursing in conjunction with Geriatric Chronic Disease Management of Shaanxi Province was successfully held by Department of Geriatrics 1 of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). The conference proceeded online. More than 150 participants from Professional Committee of Combination of Medicine and Nursing of Shaanxi Province Health Care Association and relevant institutions from Shaanxi province attended the conference, which was presided over by Associate Professor Zhang Wei, Deputy Director-General of Professional Committee of Combination of Medicine and Nursing of Shaanxi Province Health Care Association.
Professor Su Xianming, Chairman of Professional Committee of Combination of Medicine and Nursing of Shaanxi Province Health Care Association, gave a summary of previous work. He fully recognized that the members of the professional committee not only complete the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, but also take their advantages to accomplish routine work. In particular, members of nursing homes have carried out various activities to serve the elderly patients in a closed and semi-closed environment, which is worthy of praise.
Associate Professor Ren Yanping, Director-General of Professional Committee of Combination of Medicine and Nursing of Shaanxi Province Health Care Association, illustrated the screening procedures of core network affiliations of Shaanxi province branch of National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (Chinese PLA General Hospital). After layer-by-layer screening procedures, 9 grass-roots hospitals became the first-batch core network affiliations. The plaque-presenting ceremony was held online. Core network affiliations will become the emphasized affiliations of the professional committee, laying a solid foundation for the combination of medicine and nursing and chronic disease management.
During the academic session, Bai Guansheng, inspector from Department of Civil Affairs of Shaanxi Province, proposed the necessity and urgency of continuously promoting in-depth development of home-based nursing care and strengthening the cultivation of nursing care talents for the elderly based on the concrete reality of aging society in China, and put forward the practical problems that need to be emphasized in the field of medicine combined with nursing care.
Liu Xiaohong, Director from Peking Union Medical College Hospital, gave an intriguing lecture on chronic disease management and holistic care for the senior patients, reminding us of paying equal attention to both chronic diseases and holistic care.
Yu Yue, Director from Chengguan Town Health Center, Huangyuan County, Xining, Qinghai Province, illustrated the exploration and practice of chronic disease management at grass-roots medical institutions, especially the application of chronic disease management software. Li Rui, Director from Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital, elucidated the cognitive management of the elderly population. Shi Zhihong, Director from our hospital, introduced the community-based management of respiratory diseases of the aged patients.
