On July 23, Professor Ma Ding, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Tongji Hospital of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, led a team to visit the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for guidance and exchange and boost the disciplinary construction of obstetrics and gynecology. President Lyu Yi, Assistant-to-President She Junjun, Professor Gou Wenli from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Deputy Director Li Xuelan, Deputy Director Han Xiaobing, Deputy Director Yang Xiaofeng, Secretary of Party Branch Li Chunfang, and relevant colleagues from Department of Human Resources attended the activity.

President Lyu Yi introduced the construction work of national medical center of our hospital. Subsequently, Academician Ma Ding put forward valuable suggestions on the construction of National Obstetrics and Gynecology Regional Medical Center. He highlighted that the construction of Shaanxi Branch of National Obstetrics and Gynecology Medical Center should closely focus on the goal of national medical construction. Taking ovarian cancer as a single disease example, he also shared "Hubei Experience". Corresponding mechanisms which adapt to development should be established by the construction of specialty outpatient, key laboratory and combined with individual situations. On the basis of absorption of advanced experience from foreign countries in combination with Chinese and regional characteristics and long-term accumulation and repeated verification, we can give full play to the independent innovation of medical centers and encourage young physicians to cultivate the thinking of "clinical scientists". Apart from "following the leaders", extensive efforts should be diverted to creating groundbreaking technologies from "0 to 1", expecting to build up national medical centers in line with international standards. Meantime, Academician Ma Ding proposed to lead the grass-roots hospitals in the prevention and control of cervical cancer, apply advanced technologies to improve the screening mechanism, fully understand the changes of disease pedigree, achieve accurate disease classification, and deliver target management for high-risk populations, aiming to deliver early non-invasive treatment, alleviate unnecessary stress for low-risk populations, and strive to eliminate cervical cancer as soon as possible.

Subsequently, Professor Gou Wenli mentioned that the work of building up a national medical center should focus on the patients, and we should explore scientific problems in clinical practice and rack our brain to work out proper solutions. We should strengthen communication with the medical center led by Academician Ma Ding, and make efforts to become 1 of the 100 centers for standardized diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer according to Academician Ma Ding’s suggestions and realize the goal of "becoming 1 of the 100 centers in ovarian cancer, striving to become 1 of the 100 centers in cervical cancer" in line with national medical centers. In addition, Professor Gou Wenli hoped that National Medical Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology and Shaanxi Branch can cooperate closely in clinical testing and big data research, leading Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of our hospital into the advanced centers in China. Professor Yang Xiaofeng stated that Xi 'an has joined the construction of a "Healthy City". Under the leadership of Professor Gou Wenli, the discipline of pregnancy-induced hypertension has been advanced into the leading level nationwide. The development of gynecological tumors still requires the overall arrangement. By following the thinking of "clinical scientists", in-depth scientific research should be carried out and the prevention and control of cervical cancer should be strengthened. Under the instruction of PresidentLyu Yiand the guidance of Academician Ma Ding, we should complete the work step-by-step.

Finally, President Lyu Yi and Academician Ma Ding discussed the issue of talent training. Academician Ma Ding proposed that it is necessary to establish a high-end platform to recruit top-notched talents. PresidentLyu Yiresponded that our hospital will continue to improve the talent incentive mechanism, attract overseas talents and cultivate a pool of talents “who are willing to and capable of making a difference". Moreover, our hospital will also infuse full support to Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, catch with the instructions and steps of Academician Ma Ding,strengthen the training of outstanding postdoctoral and doctoral students, and make concrete efforts to build up disciplinary construction and regional obstetrics and gynecology center.
