On July 24, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was approved as the first-batch "National Demonstration Center for Adsorption-type Extracorporeal Life Support Technology" in China at the 5th Annual Meeting of Chinese Society of Extracorporeal Life Support (CSECLS 2021), becoming a member of the "national team" and the only approved affiliation in Northwest China.
This project was jointly initiated by Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Extracorporeal Life Support Committee of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Chinese Society of Extracorporeal Circulation of Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering. Hundreds of institutions across China went through online registration, on-the-spot debate and expert selection. Finally, 12 affiliations including Beijing Anzhen Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, Wuhan Asia Heart Hospital and the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU were approved as national demonstration centers and received the certification plague.
Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is widely employed as the first-line treatment intervention for critically ill patients. Absorption-type ECLS properly combines blood perfusion technology with ECLS technology, which can eliminate excessive inflammatory cytokines in patients, correct the imbalance of inflammatory mediators, regulate immune response, avoidtissue and organ damage caused by inflammatory cytokine storm through the relative absorption property of perfusion device, thereby improving organ function and hemodynamics. In recent years, as a novel technology, it has played an advantageous role in the treatment of patients undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass, ECMO and severe CRRT after operation. In the newly-released ECMO survey report in China in 2020, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of our hospital ranks 7th nationwide.
In the future, under the promotion and guidance of Chinese Society of Extracorporeal Life Support, our center will play a leading role in disciplinary construction, join hands with other demonstration centers to formulate standardized diagnosis and treatment procedures, establish standardized teaching centers, actively promote the application and popularization of this technology, and safeguard the health of Chinese people.
