On June 4, 2021, Minimally Invasive Treatment of Lower Extremity Venous Disease of Chinese Society of Microcirculation in conjunction with the 3rd Training Course of New Ideas and Technologies for Minimally Invasive Treatment of Varicose Veins in Shaanxi Province were held in Department of Vascular Surgery from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Professor Zhang Wangde from Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, Professor Mei Jiacai from the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Ye Zhidong from China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Professor Li Guangxin from the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong Medical University and other experts were invited to attend the opening ceremony. The training course was conducted both online and offline, which consisted of expert lectures, academic video demonstration and complex case discussion. The training course was organized to comprehensively display and exchange novel achievement, progress and trend of lower extremity venous disease, pursue academic consensus and improve clinical capability.

Professor Lu Shaoying from Department of Vascular Surgery of our hospital is the Executive Chairman of the meeting, and he introduced the theme of the meeting, highlighting that the training course of venous diseases was organized to present the latest ideas and methods in this field, aiming to lead and standardize the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases and bring benefits to the patients.

Professor Zheng Yuehong delivered an online speech via video connection, stating that Professional Committee of Peripheral Vascular Diseases of Chinese Society of Microcirculation has carried out a large quantity of academic exchange activities throughout China. Under the leadership of Professor Liu Jianlin, Professor Lu Shaoying, Professor Feng Jun and other experts, academic activities associated with the treatment of lower extremity varicose veins, venous thrombosis and VTE have been organized for many years, which improve the clinical and academic capability of physicians in the field of vascular diseases in Northwest China, and especially provide an efficient and practical platform for academic exchange and interaction for young surgeons and those in grassroots hospitals.

During the meeting, Professor Mei Jiacai from the Sixth People's Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave an intriguing presentation entitled “Interpretation and Revision of Expert Consensus on Microcirculation of Primary Varicosis of the Lower Limbs”. Professor Li Guangxin from the First Affiliated Hospital of Shandong First Medical University delivered a lecture entitled “New Selection of Minimally Invasive Treatment of Lower Limb Varices based on CEAP Classification”.

Professor Lu Shaoying, Chairman of the meeting, shared a presentation entitled "Preoperative Evaluation and Selection of Surgical Treatment of Lower Limb Varicosis" and introduced the main purpose of CVD treatment. In terms of how to deliver complete preoperative evaluation, Professor Lu Shaoying proposed that it is insufficient to evaluate the hemodynamics of the lower limbs by ultrasound. For C5-C6 patients, routine anterograde angiography (PTS, Cockett), inferior vena cava angiography (Budd-Chiari Syndrome), pulmonary angiography (congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension) and congenital vascular malformation of the lower limbs (KTS, PWS) should be differentiated. Due to the high incidence of residue, recurrence and phlebitis in outpatient, every clinician should inform the patients with the surgical efficacy and the risk of postoperative complications.

In the academic session, multiple experts at home and abroad gave intriguing lectures. Different academic viewpoints, new thoughts, new technologies and new methods were freely discussed at the meeting, providing clinicians with more therapeutic options and better treatment plans for the patients.
