The 2nd National Training Course of Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis is held

From May 13 to 14, 2021, the 2nd National Training Course of Diagnosis and Treatment of Osteoporosis was successfully held in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). More than 30 chief physicians and associate chief physicians from Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Inner Mongolia, Gansu province, Shanghai, Jiangsu province, Sichuan province, Fujian province, Guangzhou, Heilongjiang province and other provinces and autonomous regions were invited to attend the training course.

As a standing member affiliation of Professional Committee of Rheumatology of Chinese Medical Association, the leading affiliation of Professional Committee of Rheumatology of Shaanxi Medical Association, and "A Long March to China Qualification-Collaborating Base of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technology of Osteoporosis" of National Health Commission, Department of Rheumatology and Immunology of our hospital began to host the training course in 2020, aiming to advance and persistently promote the standardized diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis.

On the morning of May 13, He Lan, Director of Department of Rheumatology and Immunology introduced the situation of our department and the development history of the discipline of rheumatology and immune osteoporosis, and subsequently led the students to visit the wards and learn how to implement chronic disease management of osteoporosis at the Outpatient.

On the afternoon of May 13, 3 young attending physicians from Department of Rheumatology and Immunology shared special cases of osteoporosis with all participants, letting the trainees understand the process of clinical diagnosis and differential diagnosis of osteoporosis. Subsequently, Director He Lan interpreted Comprehensive Prevention and Treatment of Bone Injury in Systemic Immune Diseases and 2020 AACE/ACE Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis, providing professional insights on the present situation of bone injury in systemic immune diseases, how to reconstruct immune homeostasis, deepening the understanding and bolstering the confidence of prevention and treatment of bone injury in systemic immune diseases, updating the concept of osteoporosis treatment and diverting more attention to the assessment of the risk of osteoporosis fracture. In addition, Professor Pu Dan explained Management and Challenges of Osteoporosis in Elderly Patients, illustrating how to treat and manage elderly patients with osteoporosis in subsequent diagnosis and treatment practice. Professor Lyu Xiaohong delivered a lecture entitled Monitoring and Evaluation of Clinical Efficacy of Osteoporosis Treatment, unraveling the significance of different bone metabolism biomarkers in evaluating clinical efficacy of osteoporosis treatment and how to utilize these parameters to enhance the management of osteoporosis in clinical settings. Besides, attending physicians Hu Nan and Zhang Jing gave intriguing presentations entitled Understanding OA and OP and Promoting Stratification Treatment of OA and Evaluating the Effect of Vitamin D on Immune Diseases Based on Current Research Status of Vitamin D.

On May 14, Director He Lan led the trainees to deliver ward round, personally taught them how to analyze the images, and showcased the complexity of rheumatic immune bone injury and how to implement the prevention and treatment procedures. Finally, Li Xin, Head Nurse of Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, gave a themed report entitled Management and Nursing Experience of Chronic Disease Management of Osteoporosis. After the training course, all trainees jointly discussed the questions and challenges encountered in clinical practice, providing valuable assistance to deepen the understanding of osteoporosis and improve the prevention and management of osteoporosis.
