On the afternoon of March 3, 2021, the first MDT for Familial and Hereditary Tumors in Northwest China was established in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Professor Zou Yuliang, Assistant-to-President of our hospital, Zhang Chengsheng, Director of Cancer Center, Director Li Enxiao and Deputy Director Yang Jin of Oncology Department, Director An Ruifang and Deputy Director Yang Xiaofeng of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Director He Jianjun and Deputy Director Ren Yu of Department of Breast Surgery, Director Zhang Guanjun and Deputy Director Wang Hongyan of Pathology Department, Deputy Director Zhao Dongli and Professor Ren Juan of Department of Radiation Oncology, and relevant staff from Oncology Department, Department of General Surgery, Imaging Department and Cancer Center attended the inauguration ceremony.
On behalf of the leaders of our hospital, Professor Zou Yuliang delivered a speech, stressing that MDT for Familial and Hereditary Tumors is a service model that integrates multi-disciplinary efforts to provide patients with all-round integrated medical services from etiological exploration, mass screening, disease prevention to the application of therapeutic drugs,etc. Zhang Chengsheng, Director of Cancer Center, highlighted that the establishment of MDT for Familial and Hereditary Tumors is a critical milestone in the development of oncology in our hospital. Cancer is a genomic disease, and cancer treatment has entered an era of precise diagnosis and treatment. Gene sequencing serves as a pivotal tool for genetic diagnosis. Our hospital has been equipped with the facilities and technological platform for precise genetic diagnosis. Subsequently, Director Li Enxiao, Director An Ruifang, Director He Jianjun and Director Zhang Guanjun delivered respective speeches on behalf of their departments, hoping that everyone can make joint efforts to improve the diagnosis and treatment level of hereditary tumors in our hospital.
Professor Zou Yuliang hosted the unveiling ceremony for MDT for Familial and Hereditary Tumors. After that, Associate Professor Liu Xi of Pathology Department gave a themed lecture entitled Detection of familial and hereditary tumors-associated genes. Associate Professor Dong Danfeng of Oncology Department and Associate Professor Pei Meili of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology delivered presentations entitled Clinical cases of familial and hereditary breast cancer, and Clinical cases of familial and hereditary endometrial cancer complicated with Lynch syndrome.
Hereditary tumors are complex and involve with multiple disciplines. It is necessary to organize relevant experts to establish MDT to deliver efficient and precise management of hereditary tumors. Therefore, MDT Center for Familial and Hereditary Tumors is born.
The MDT for Familial and Hereditary Tumors in the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU is jointly established by multidisciplinary professional experts, such as clinical oncology, imaging, pathology, genetics and genomics and translational medicine, aiming to carry out screening, diagnosis and treatment of hereditary tumors under the guidance of national policy of precision medicine, provide more efficient and accurate whole-process management for patients with hereditary tumors, promote the development of familial and hereditary tumors, standardize clinical diagnosis and treatment, increase the proportion of early diagnosis of population with high-risk hereditary tumors, vigorously strengthen early diagnosis and treatment of tumors and realize precise prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tumors.
