On November 27, 2020, the national finals of Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO)-Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Project for Lung Cancer in conjunction with the 2nd Youth Lung Cancer MDT Case Competition hosted by CSCO kicked off. The MDT lung cancer youth team of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) grabbed the Champion of the national finals (Best Competency Award).

The CSCO-Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Project for Lung Cancer in conjunction with the 2nd Youth Lung Cancer MDT Case Competition consists of 25 regional competitions, 6 regional competitions and 2 semi-finals held in 31 cities throughout China. After intense competition, led by Professor Yao Yu, the lung cancer MDT youth team consisting of excellent young physicians Tian Tao from Department of Oncology Medicine, Du Ning from Department of Thoracic Surgery, Liu Rui from Department of Radiotherapy, Zhou Bo from Department of Respiratory and Critical Medicine, Du Yonghao from Imaging Department and Zhang Yun from Department of Pathology, successfully rushed into the national finals after multiple rounds of competitions, and gathered together with the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Cancer Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center to exhibit an intriguing online academic feast in the field of lung cancer.
Professor Zhou Caicun and Professor Han Baohui jointly served as the presidents of the conference and multiple prestigious experts were invited to serve as the judges. In the finals, the face-to-face battle between two teams was launched. Each team competed for four sessions including team presentation, case illustration, paired PK, and questions and comments from the judges. Due to the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic in Shanghai, the finals were switched to be held online at the four sub-venues of Xi 'an, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
Under the leadership of Physician Tian Tao, also the team captain, the lung cancer MDT youth team of our hospital integrated the wisdom of multi-disciplinary diagnosis and treatment, showcased the unity and intimate cooperation, delivered meticulous and professional presentation, gave determined and accurate debate and presented with exquisite PPT slides, logically and clearly illustrating the standardized diagnosis and treatment path of a lung adenocarcinoma patient in clinical setting. Their performance was highly recognized by the judges. Eventually, the team grabbed the championship of the national finals (Best Competency Award). Meantime, Physician Tian Tao from Department of Oncology in our hospital received unanimous approval from the evaluation team due to his extraordinary performance.
