On the morning of September 11, 2020 Chinese Hospital Congress organized by Chinese Hospital Association was held in Beijing Convention Center. A grand award ceremony was launched during the opening ceremony. Shi Bingyin, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) received the honorary title of "2020 Excellent Hospital President".

The congress is themed with "People First, Life First". Liu Qian, Vice Chairman of Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of National People's Congress and President of Chinese Hospital Association, Yang Jianli, Executive Deputy Secretary of Party Committee of National Health Commission, Jiao Yahui, Supervisor of Bureau of Medical Service and Hospital Management of National Health Commission, Huang Huabo, Director of Department of Health Insurance Supervision of National Healthcare Security Administration, Wang Ping, Director of Department of Drug Registration of National Medical Products Administration, Xu Peihai, Party Secretary of Social Organizations supervised by National Health Commission, and presidents of provincial hospital associations attended the congress. Nearly 500 hospital administrators from all over the country participated in the congress, and many hospital administrators and medical staff also watched the congress online.

Jiao Yahui, Supervisor of Bureau of Medical Service and Hospital Management of National Health Commission, announced the instructions delivered by Ma Xiaowei, Party Secretary and Director of National Health Commission, to 2020 Chinese Hospital Conference. Director Ma Xiaowei pointed out that the fight against COVID-19 has not ended yet. All medical and health institutions should remain highly vigilant, resolve the problems occurring during the pandemic and play the significant role of medical institutions in dealing with major pandemic crises. It is necessary to speed up the construction of modern hospital management system and hierarchical medical system, aiming to make contributions to building a moderately prosperous society in all aspects and a modern socialist country.

Under the guidance of National Health Commission, the commendation events of "Excellent Hospital President and Hospital President with Outstanding Contributions" have been successfully held for consecutive 9 sessions. This year, the honorary titles were given to the candidates who have made significant contributions in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, deepening medical reform, poverty alleviation for the poor with health problems and improving medical services. All candidates were assessed and screened by the mode of bottom-up, step-by-step recommendation and competitive voting, and the selection results were supervised twice and made public for triple times. President Shi Bingyin was appointed by the National Health Commission to lead the national medical team to Wuhan for two months, and took over two wards in East District of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University to carry out clinical treatment of severe COVID-19 patients and save the lives of more than 100 critically ill patients. He led the establishment of a special group to reduce the mortality rate of COVID-19 and served as the group leader. He was also invited to introduce his experience in the medical treatment of COVID-19 patients in Hubei province at the Press Conference of Hubei Province and the Press Conference of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council. During the stay in Wuhan, President Shi Bingyin led the team to conduct genome and transcriptome studies for patients with COVID-19, providing potential evidence for resolving major scientific issues related to COVID-19. Besides, he actively organized medical experts to provide anti-COVID-19 support in foreign countries, delivered video connection with counterparts from nearly 30 countries to share valuable experiences from the perspectives of epidemic prevention and control, patient treatment, psychological intervention and hospital management,etc. His excellent performance in the fight against COVID-19 has been reported by CCTV News and other authoritative media.
