On September 16, Professor Xue Wujun, Director of Kidney Disease Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), received the honorary title of "China’s Top Doctor Awards" at the 4th award ceremony organized by People's Daily.
The award ceremony of "China’s Top Doctor Awards" is themed with "Recommending role model doctors,Guiding the public opinion of respecting doctors and Promoting people's health". It aims to promote the establishment of policy, mechanism, public opinion, academic activity and social environment to activate the growth of top doctors in China, stimulate the endogenous motivation and professional esteem of average doctors to become top doctors, and make contributions to the strategy of healthy China. Such award ceremony has been held for four consecutive sessions.
Professor Xue Wujun is the President-designate of Chinese Society of Organ Transplantation of Chinese Medical Association, member of China Organ Donation and Transplantation Committee, former Chairman of Kidney Transplantation Branch of China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Healthcare (CPAM), Director of Organ Transplantation Institute of XJTU, and President of Kidney Disease Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU. He has been dedicated to the clinical research of organ transplantation, established Organ Transplantation Institute and Department of Kidney Transplantation, pioneered in the application of advanced clinical techniques, such as tissue matching, immunosuppressive treatment and monitoring, comprehensive prevention and treatment of infection, high-risk kidney transplantation (hepatitis and polycystic kidney), systematic experimental monitoring and diagnosis after transplantation, carried out a series of basic research, such as islet transplantation, ischemia-reperfusion injury and transplantation immunity, and achieved multiple internationally and domestically advanced research outcomes. He has led the department to complete more than 5,600 cases of kidney transplantation, making our hospital as one of the largest transplantation centers in China and mastering the state-of-the-art transplantation technologies at both home and abroad.
He presided over the work of donation after citizen's death (DCD) and achieved groundbreaking progress, making our hospital become a national demonstration affiliation. It has established an organ donation system abiding by Chinese laws, policies, ethics and national conditions, constructed an organizational system led by the government, coordinated by the Red Cross, organized by OPO, coordinated by disciplines and implemented by professional teams, formed a "four-in-one" working system consisting of attending physicians, organ donation coordinators, organ evaluation physicians and organ procurementphysicians under the leadership of chief experts, proposed the implementation guidelines of disease evaluation, treatment termination, death determination and organ procurement and distribution, formed a cooperative working mode between organ donation coordinators and organ evaluation physicians, created a new chapter of voluntary citizen donation as the only organ source of transplantation, promoted the healthy development of legalization, internationalization and scientificization of organ transplantation in China, and made contributions to building the Chinese model of organ transplantation.
Professor Xue Wujun has presided over two National Key Basic Research and Development Plan (973 Program), two National Natural Science Foundation of China, two Key Clinical Discipline Construction Project of National Health Commission, two Key Scientific Research Project of the Ministry of Education, three doctoral funding project and preferential doctoral funding project of the Ministry of Education, and four Major Scientific and Technological Project of Shaanxi Province. He has published more than 250 academic papers as the first author (corresponding author), received 6 scientific and technological awards as the first participant. The project entitled "Innovation and clinical application of key technologies inkidney transplantation" was awarded as the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2013. He was selected as the first-tier "National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project", "Rising Star in Science and Technology of Shaanxi Province”, Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions to National Health and Family Planning, “Sanqin Scholars of Shaanxi Province” and a "Top Scholar of Xi 'an Jiaotong University”.
