On the morning of April 6, Professor Metin Sitti, a world-leading scholar in the field of magnetic controlled micro medical robots, a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and the European Academy of Sciences, and President of Koç University, Turkey, was invited to visit the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for an academic exchange. Professor Lyu Yi, President of the FAH, attended the meeting together with experts and representatives of faculty and students from relevant fields such as the Department of Magnetic Surgery, the School of Mechanical Engineering, and the School of Physics. The meeting was chaired by Professor Wu Rongqian, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology and Director of the Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization.

President Lyu Yi extended a warm welcome to Professor Metin Sitti and introduced the core achievements of the FAH’s magnetic surgery team in magnetic navigation technologies. He highlighted research progress in magnetic navigation-guided tracheal intubation and a magnetic navigation device for gastric tube insertion, and expressed the hope that this exchange would serve as an opportunity to deepen collaboration in the R&D and clinical translation of magnetically controlled micro medical robots, as well as comprehensive inter-university cooperation.

Professor Metin Sitti delivered an academic lecture entitled “Physically Intelligence-Driven Micro Medical Robots”, sharing his team’s latest research advances in minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment. He demonstrated the application advantages of magnetically controlled micro-robots in scenarios such as aneurysm treatment, precision drug delivery, and biopsy sampling.

Subsequently, Associate Researcher Dong Dinghui introduced the FAH’s progress in discipline development and clinical translation in magnetic surgery, and PhD students Zhang Yupei and Liu Long presented their related research work, respectively. Professor Metin Sitti provided precise comments and technical guidance on the presentations, spoke highly of the profound foundation and distinctive disciplinary strengths of magnetic surgery at the FAH and expressed his expectation for closer, pragmatic cooperation.

This exchange broadened the international perspective of magnetic surgery and the interdisciplinary field of medicine and engineering, laying a solid foundation for in-depth cooperation between the two sides. Both sides agreed to strengthen mutual academic visits, research coordination, and joint talent cultivation, and to jointly advance technological innovation in magnetic surgery and magnetically controlled micro medical robots. President Lyu Yi also invited Professor Metin Sitti to attend the 9th International Conference of Magnetic Surgery, to be held at the FAH in July this year.
