Clinical Research and Big Data Summit 2019 organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was grandly held on November 16. Professor Wu Taixiang and Professor Kang Deying from Evidence-based Medicine Center of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Han Guohong from Department of Digestive Intervention of Xijing Hospital, Professor Wang Yang and Professor Yin Lu from Fuwai Hospital of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Xu Heng from Precision Medicine Center of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Professor Yang Ming from Institute of Science and Technology for Brain-Inspired Intelligence, Professor Zhang Feng from School of Public Health of XJTU, Professor Zhang Chengsheng and Professor Liu Bing from our hospital, and Professor Xia Han from Yuguoweima Biotechnology CO., Ltd. were invited to deliver informative speeches.
At the opening ceremony, Ma Xiancang, Vice President of our hospital, expressed that how to efficiently and reasonably integrate and utilize clinical data resources has become one of the most essential issues in the development of clinical research. How to organically integrate advanced clinical research concepts, cutting-edge biotechnology and focused issues of the clinical translation and promote the development of clinical research is an urgent concern for clinicians.
This summit consists of three specific sessions. In the session of "Clinical Research Design and Statistics", Professor Wu Taixiang introduced the registration of clinical trials and the sharing of original data. Professor Kang Deying delivered an in-depth and understandable explanation on the value of clinical studies in the real world. Professor Han Guohong shared his path in conducting clinical research from the perspective of a clinician. Professor Wang Yang and Professor Yin Lu explained and discussed big data in medicine and the control of confounding factors from the perspective of statisticians, respectively.
During the session of ‘Discussion and Sharing of Clinical Cases", Xiao Yihui from Department of Cardiovascular Medicine introduced multi-center clinical trials on the risk of depression after PCI. Gao Wei from Anesthesiology Department illustrated multi-center clinical researches on the prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting by percutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation.
In the session of ‘Artificial Intelligence and Precision Medicine’, Professor Xu Heng elaborated on the application of pharmacogenomics in precision medicine. Professor Yang Ming introduced the clinical application of artificial intelligence in the era of big data by using intriguing cases and examples. Professor Zhang Feng illustrated how the clinicians carry out clinical research through ‘omics/big data’. Professor Zhang Chengsheng described the clinical significance of precision medicine for oncology. Professor Liu Bing shared the research cases in the field of protein. Professor Xia Han shared thoughts upon the application of microbiology and stream data analysis in clinical diagnosis and research.
