Recently, the 4th National “Zichen Cup” ESD Case Presentation and Exchange Meeting (Western Region), hosted by the Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy, was successfully held. The meeting brought together outstanding endoscopists from 12 hospitals in Northwest and Southwest China that advanced through preliminary case screening, and featured in-depth sharing and discussion of real-world clinical cases of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), demonstrating the solid technical foundation and innovative clinical thinking in this field across western China.

Following rigorous case presentations and expert review, Dr. Li Yarui from the Department of Gastroenterology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) stood out in a highly competitive field and won first place, thanks to the standardization of the presented case, the innovative management of technical challenges, and the clear and professional on-site presentation.

The award-winning case was completed under the guidance of the department’s endoscopic minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment team, together with Professors He Shuixiang and Ren Mudan. During case preparation, Professor Wang Chunbao from the Department of Pathology of the FAH also provided strong support and professional guidance in pathological diagnosis and analysis, fully highlighting the advantages of multidisciplinary collaboration in clinical problem-solving.

This achievement underscores the strong capability of the Department of Gastroenterology in endoscopic ultra-minimally invasive management of early gastrointestinal cancer, reflects the effectiveness of its talent development, and contributes to regional academic exchanges and technical advancement.
