On December 8, 2025, an international expert panel comprising Professor Jeyaraj Pandian, President of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), and Professor Li Shen from Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Capital Medical University, visited the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) to carry out an on-site evaluation for international accreditation as an advanced stroke center. This is the second hospital in the China region to undergo WSO international stroke center accreditation, marking a new stage in which the FAH’s stroke center development is deeply aligned with the highest international standards.

The FAH attached great importance to this accreditation. Vice President Han Jianfeng chaired the entire evaluation process, and Party Secretary Ma Xinge delivered concluding remarks at the end of the assessment. The core and related departments of the stroke center, such as the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Emergency, as well as management and support departments such as the Department of Medical Affairs and the Department of Quality Management, worked together efficiently to undergo the international review.

The evaluation strictly followed the established procedures, beginning with a kick-off briefing held in the conference room on the 4th floor of the outpatient department at the Land Port Division. On behalf of the hospital, Dr. Wang Jianyi delivered a comprehensive presentation covering strategic positioning, organizational structure, key technologies and quality control. Subsequently, accompanied by Vice President Han Jianfeng and heads of relevant departments, the expert panel conducted in-depth site visits to key areas such as the Department of Emergency, the Department of Radiology and the interventional catheterization laboratory. Through on-site observation, equipment verification and staff interviews, they focused on assessing core components such as “green channel” workflows and multidisciplinary collaboration.

During the document and materials review segment, Deputy Director Yu Jia and other relevant staff were responsible for communication and responding to questions, demonstrating the institutionalization and standardization of the center’s management. At the conclusion of the evaluation, Dr. Chen Chen presented the medical records of randomly selected acute stroke patients, and the expert panel conducted an in-depth analysis of the entire diagnostic and treatment process.

During the evaluation, the expert panel gave positive comments on the stroke center’s overall capacity for comprehensive stroke care, process management and quality culture, while also offering constructive suggestions, expressing the hope that the FAH will give full play to its regional radiating role, disseminate its mature experience and explore models for stroke prevention and treatment in high-altitude regions. The accreditation result will be officially announced at next year’s WSO congress in Seoul.

In his concluding remarks, Party Secretary Ma Xinge expressed gratitude to the expert panel for their guidance and stated that the FAH will conscientiously implement the recommended improvements, using the accreditation process to drive development and enhancement, with a commitment to building a world-class stroke center, assuming responsibility for the building of the regional stroke prevention and treatment network, and contributing “Chinese solutions” and the “XJTU experience” to global stroke prevention and control.
