Recently, at the invitation of host institutions, Professor Wang Zheng and Dr. Wei Kongyuan of the Xiyi Pancreas Team of the Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) visited the Pancreas Center of the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, the Pancreas Center of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany, and the Pancreas Center of the University Hospital of Padua in Italy for academic exchanges. They also delivered a keynote address and thematic presentations at the 127th Italian Surgery Annual Congress and the 27th European Surgery Annual Congress.

From September 29 to 30, Professor Wang Zheng and Dr. Wei Kongyuan visited the Amsterdam University Medical Center in the Netherlands, where they observed the operation of the operating rooms and the pancreatic surgery ward on site and participated in multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions. The Xiyi Pancreas Team presented a systematic overview of its related clinical experience and theoretical framework, while Professor Marc G. Besselink shared the advanced practices of the Amsterdam Pancreas Center in postoperative continuum management, enhanced recovery, and early tube removal and discharge strategies. The two sides reached a sustained and in-depth consensus on promoting international multicenter clinical research, co-development of the discipline, and scientific collaboration.

From October 1 to 2, the delegation visited the operating rooms, surgical wards, and ICU at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany and had discussions with Professor Thilo Hackert, Director of the Department of Surgery. During the visit, Professor Wang Zheng delivered an invited lecture, systematically outlining the Xiyi Pancreas Team’s concept and clinical practice in building an “all-in-one” pancreatic diagnosis-and-treatment platform, with a particular focus on the innovative application of endoscopy-surgery combined strategies and magnetic surgery in pancreatic operations. Professors Wang Zheng and Hackert held extensive discussions on surgical treatment strategies for chronic pancreatitis and exchanged preliminary analytical results from related international multicenter clinical studies. Professor Hackert presented Professor Wang Zheng with an honorary teaching certificate and expressed his intention to continue advancing international cooperation and academic exchanges with the XJTU Pancreas Center Team.

From October 3 to 4, at the invitation of Professor Giovanni Marchegiani, head of the Pancreas Center at the University of Padua, the team observed the center’s clinical practice and had in-depth discussions on clinical research progress concerning benign and low-grade malignant pancreatic tumors. Professor Marchegiani highly commended the Xiyi Pancreas Team for its achievements in endoscopy-surgery combined treatment of pancreatic diseases and, on behalf of the organizing committee, formally invited Professor Wang Zheng to present the team’ experience at the European Pancreas Annual Congress.

From October 5 to 6, Professor Wang Zheng and Dr. Wei Kongyuan were invited to attend the 127th Italian Surgery Annual Congress and the 27th European Surgery Annual Congress. Professor Wang Zheng delivered a keynote address titled “Comprehensive Minimally Invasive Surgical Strategy for Chronic Pancreatitis: Xiyi Pancreatic Center’s 10-year Experience”, while Dr.Wei Kongyuan presented a clinical research report on “Minimally invasive pancreatic surgery combined with venous resection for pancreatic tumors: global experience and outlooking”, systematically showcasing the extensive experience and forward-looking perspective of the Xiyi Pancreas Team in minimally invasive pancreatic surgery. Professor Wang Zheng comprehensively presented to the Italian Society of Surgery and the European Society of Surgery the team’s integrated diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities for acute and chronic pancreatitis and for benign and malignant pancreatic tumors, particularly its clinical and research achievements in the integrated application of endoscopy with surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and magnetic surgery. Professor Testini, Chair of the European Surgery Annual Congress, expressed the hope of pursuing deeper clinical and basic-science cooperation with the Xiyi Pancreas Team in the future.
