On August 13, 2025, at the invitation of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center, Professor Ishibashi Yoshitaka, Director of the Department of Nephrology and Blood Purification Center at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center, and his delegation visited the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for academic exchanges.
In the morning, Professor Ishibashi Yoshitaka and his team visited the hospital’s outpatient phlebotomy room, outpatient consultation rooms, and the Biobank. They spoke highly of the FAH’s initiatives in multi-channel outpatient appointment and triage, intelligent blood collection, smart wound dressing changes, and multidisciplinary joint outpatient services. The two sides also engaged in discussions on the management of multi-omics data in the hospital’s biobank and the development system of the “Clinical Problem–Sample Science–Translational Application”.
Subsequently, Professor Ishibashi Yoshitaka and his delegation visited the Department of Critical Renal Care & Blood Purification, accompanied by Director Jiang Hongli. They toured the wards and the intelligent blood purification facilities, during which Director Jiang highlighted the department’s distinctive strengths, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of its patients, and exchanged views with Professor Ishibashi on personalized treatment strategies.
In the afternoon, Professor Ishibashi Yoshitaka, Director of the Department of Nephrology and Blood Purification Center at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center; Dr. Ishibashi Yujiro from Peking University Health Science Center; Professor Yao Li from the Department of General Surgery at China-Japan Friendship Hospital; and Dr. Gu Huiming from the same hospital attended the academic exchange event. The meeting was also attended by the director, deputy directors, and key physicians from the Departments of Nephrology and Critical Renal Care & Blood Purification, Wu Nan, Deputy Director of the Outpatient Department, and Yao Hongmei, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Center, among others.
Professor Ishibashi Yoshitaka, in his keynote speech titled “Japanese Holistic and Integrated Care for Renal Failure”, vividly illustrated the integration of modern medicine with traditional medicinal dietary therapy through the case study of an 88-year-old patient with renal failure. He provided a systematic introduction to the application of Japan’s “holistic care” philosophy in the field of nephrology, conducted an in-depth analysis of topics such as the comparison between the Chinese and Japanese healthcare systems and future directions for medical development, and shared Japan’s exploration and advancements in the domains of medicine and thanatology.
Dr. Wei Limin from the Department of Critical Renal Care & Blood Purification delivered a case report titled “Unveiling the Mystery: Decoding the ‘Muscle’ Puzzle Behind Lower Limb Weakness”, in which she analyzed the diagnosis and treatment process of a 71-year-old hemodialysis patient. Experts from both China and abroad discussed strategies for the prevention and treatment of sarcopenia in CKD patients and its clinical significance.
Finally, the attending guests and experts from relevant disciplines of the FAH engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as differences between Chinese and Japanese healthcare, comprehensive management of dialysis patients, and care for end-stage renal disease. Both parties expressed their hope to further strengthen communication and cooperation in the future.
