On the afternoon of August 12, 2025, Charlie Abraham, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Executive Officer of CommonSpirit Health, the U.S and his delegation visit the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of X’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) for exchanges.
The experts toured the hospital’s outpatient blood collection room and consultation rooms, where they spoke highly of patient appointment process, the smart hospital initiatives, and the patient-centered healthcare service model. They then visited Biobank, expressing great admiration for its hardware facilities, storage procedures, and the scale of sample collection.

The academic exchange event was held in the Science and Education Building. Attendees included Professor Charlie Abraham, Professor Erika Abraham at the California University of Science and Medicine, President Lyu Yi and heads and key staff members from relevant functional departments.
The session was chaired by Vice President of the FAH She Junjun, who introduced the participants. President Lyu Yi delivered a welcome speech, expressing the hope that Charlie Abraham would bring advanced experience from the U.S. and that this visit would serve as an opportunity to strengthen management exchange and training. Executive Vice President Sun Zhenlin and Chairman Chen Ran also delivered speeches respectively.

Professor Charlie Abraham delivered a lecture titled “Connecting the East and West: Global Insights from the Frontiers of U.S. Healthcare”, sharing U.S. experience in medical risk management and prevention from several perspectives. Professor Erika Abraham presented insights on hospital resource management, providing an in-depth analysis of the implementation of DRG-based payment in the U.S.. Following the lectures, participants engaged in a lively discussion on healthcare quality management programs and practical case studies of DRG payment application.

This exchange event has not only built a bridge for dialogue between experts in the field of healthcare management from China and the U.S. but also laid a solid foundation for future cooperation. CommonSpirit Health, one of the largest nonprofit healthcare systems in the U.S., operates more than 140 hospitals and approx. 2,200 care sites across 21 states, serving over 20 million patients annually. FAH will continue to uphold the philosophy of openness and collaboration, creating a platform for sustained exchanges with the CommonSpirit Health system. FAH will select and send outstanding hospital staff to the U.S. for exchanges and training, nurturing more healthcare management talents with a global perspective. These efforts will contribute to the hospital’s high-quality development and support the building of a national medical center.
