Department of Gastroenterology successfully holds Practical Training Camp for Digestive Endoscopy in Northwest China

On March 22, 2025, Practical Training Camp (1st session) for Digestive Endoscopy in Northwest China, hosted by Beijing Research Association for Chronic Diseases Control and Health Education and organized by Department of Gastroenterology, the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was successfully held. Initiated by Director He Shuixiang, this training camp with the theme of "standardization, elevation and innovation" focuses on the cutting-edge technologies and clinical hotspots of digestive endoscopy, aiming to give full play to the role of National Training Base for Digestive Endoscopists in Department of Gastroenterology of FAH, improve endoscopic operation skills of medical staff, standardize the diagnosis and treatment process and promote the application of digestive endoscopic technologies in northwest region. It attracted digestive endoscopists from Shaanxi and neighboring provinces.

Associate Professor Ren Mudan, Deputy Director of Department of Gastroenterology and head of Endoscopy Center, chaired this event. The training contents comprise three modules: basic theory, examination technology and clinical practice, enabling trainees to master core skills of digestive endoscopy. Associate Professor Ren Mudan, Associate Professor Yin Yan, Professor Xu Junwang and Director Zhang Chao from Department of Gastroenterology of Xi’an No.1 Hospital served as guidance experts. They delivered intriguing explanations and live demonstrations regarding the knowledge, skills, cases and frontiers of the progress in endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of early digestive tract cancer and endoscopic treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding caused by varicose veins, which sparked heated discussions and provided tremendous support for clinical practice of the trainees.

Deputy Director Ren Mudan highlighted that this training camp is one of the serial activities to promote discipline capacity building and strengthen the influence of key clinical specialties in Department of Gastroenterology. It builds a high-quality learning platform for endoscopic operation skills, which contributes to precise diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases and enhances the quality of medical services. Moreover, it also promotes academic exchanges and cooperation among medical institutions and plays a significant role in the popularization and application of digestive endoscopic technologies.
