Recently, Professor Sebastian Bussy, director of Interventional Pulmonology at Mayo Clinic and chief expert of Lung Cancer Program and COPD Clinic at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, was invited by Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) to conduct academic exchanges. President Lyu Yi of FAH, Li Manxiang, director of Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Zhang Guangjian, director of Department of Thoracic Surgery, Yao Hongmei, deputy director of International Exchange and Cooperation Center and disciplinary backbones also attended the exchange activities. This meeting was chaired by Yao Hongmei.
President Lyu Yi delivered a welcome speech, hoping to deeply explore and learn the latest diagnosis and treatment methods and research progress for lung diseases, and persistently enhance diagnosis and treatment levels of relevant disciplines in FAH. He also expected that FAH can take this academic exchange as an opportunity to further establish academic exchanges and cooperation with Mayo Clinic regarding talent training, scientific research and clinical diagnosis and treatment technology. President Lyu Yi also presented a cultural souvenir of FAH to Professor Sebastian Bussy.
Subsequently, Professor Sebastian Bussy gave a lecture entitled "A New Era in Peripheral Nodule Biopsy: Shape Sensing Robotic Colonoscopy", sharing clinical experience of Mayo Clinic in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases.
After the meeting, Professor Sebastian Bussy led the delegate to visit Department of Thoracic Surgery ward of FAH and conducted in-depth discussion with the experts of from thoracic surgery team. Professor Sebastian Bussy showed great interests in the progress in lung transplantation, highly recognized FAH’s achievements in lung transplantation, and looked forward to further deepening academic exchanges and cooperation with FAH in the future.
Professor Sebastian Bussy and his delegate also visited Bronchoscopy Room in Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Director Li Manxiang introduced routine bronchoscopy and treatment techniques in FAH to Professor Sebastian Bussy, highlighting different navigated biopsy techniques, airway ablation and stent implantation, etc. Professor Sebastian Bussy observed bronchoscopy demonstration on the spot, highly affirmed standardized skills of the surgeons, and shared his experience in diagnosis and treatment, hoping that bilateral sides can further strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation in talent training in the future.
