From November 7 to 9, Annual Meeting 2024 of Germany Minimally Invasive Surgery was held in Hamburg. At the invitation of Professor Thilo Hackert, President of Surgical Hospital of University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf in Germany, the pancreatic disease team from the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was invited to participate in the livestream surgical demonstration at the annual meeting as the only invited affiliation in China.
It is the largest-scale and highest-level national conference in the field of minimally invasive surgery in Germany. Prestigious international teams from U.S., U.K., France and other countries were invited to conduct livestream demonstration of difficult surgical procedures and academic exchanges. The livestream surgical demonstration attracted more than 500 surgeons from Europe to attend the meeting in-person, which was broadcast simultaneously in Europe, North America and Asia.
On behalf of the pancreatic disease team of XJTU, Professor Wu Zheng and Professor Wang Zheng from Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of FAH showcased China’s latest achievements and innovative technologies in the field of minimally invasive surgery to global audience.
At 16:00 on December 7 (Beijing time), the pancreatic disease team of XJTU officially launched livestream surgical demonstration. Professor Wang Zheng introduced the profile of the pancreatic disease team of XJTU to online colleagues and peers in this field. Global experts highly recognized the team's achievements in pancreatic diseases, especially all-round, multi-dimensional and integrated diagnosis and treatment system for acute pancreatitis and severe, chronic pancreatitis and endoscopic surgery, benign and low-grade malignant tumors of pancreas and pancreatic cancer.
At 16:20, Professor Wu Zheng and Professor Wang Zheng entered into the operating room to perform robot-assisted pancreaticoduodenectomy for a patient with distal bile duct tumor, which is considered as the "Mount Everest" in the field of abdominal surgery due to high difficulty and complexity. The patient had significant calcification of lymph nodes surrounding the portal vein, and the lesion was adjacent to the portal vein, which was regarded as an extremely challenging procedure for global experts attending the meeting. With abundant clinical experience and surgical expertise, Professor Wu Zheng and Professor Wang Zheng successfully completed the operation in the portal vein area, and the whole procedure endured for approximately 4 h and 30 min. International experts highly recognized their surgical expertise. The success of livestream surgical demonstration not only demonstrated the superb skills of the pancreatic disease team of XJTU in the field of minimally invasive surgery, but also confirmed China’s leading position in this challenging procedure to colleagues and peers around the globe.
