From August 25 to 29, 2024, the 50th Annual Meeting of the World’s Congress of Surgery (International Surgery Week, ISW-2024) was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Associate Research Fellow Yan Xiaopeng from Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), a core member of the magnetic surgery team, and doctoral students Zhang Miaomiao, Liu Long and Xu Shuqin were invited to attend and deliver oral and poster presentations at ISW-2024, respectively.

Approximately 2000 surgeons and scholars from all over the world attended this congress. During the congress, the magnetic surgery team from FAH contributed a total of 7 oral presentations and 6 poster presentations, becoming the team with the most achievements in the field of magnetic surgery attending this congress.

In the oral presentation, Associate Research Fellow Yan Xiaopeng and doctoral student Zhang Miaomiao reported the successful treatment of complicated biliary obstruction and refractory esophageal stenosis by using magnetic surgery technologies in FAH, which captivated widespread attention from the peers. Professor Michel Gagner, a world-renowned minimally invasive surgeon from Canada, highly recognized the team's significant achievements in the clinical application of magnetic surgery. As early as 2021, Professor Michel Gagner highly approved that the magnetic surgery team from FAH plays a critical role in leading the development of magnetic surgery worldwide in monograph of Magnetic Surgery.

Professor Kenan Yusif-zade, Founder and Chairman of Azerbaijan Association of Military Surgeons, showed huge interests in the treatment of refractory gastrointestinal stenosis by magnetic surgery technology in FAH, inquired about the details of this procedure from the magnetic surgery team and reached a preliminary oral consensus to help Azerbaijan develop magnetic surgery technology in clinical practice.

Doctoral student Liu Long delivered an oral presentation regarding the value of prognostic biomarker and molecular characteristics of AARS2 gene in pan-cancer. This gene is a promising biomarker to reflect the biological effect of magnetic field on tumors, which is of significance and value for unraveling the biological effect of magnetic field. Doctoral student Xu Shuqin introduced the animal results of magnetic pressing technology for circumcision.

During the 5-day ISW-2024, the magnetic surgery team fully exhibited FAH’s innovative research results in magnetic surgery and strengthened international influence of FAH. They also actively learned the latest research results of international scientific research teams, grasped the latest trends and pinpointed the development direction.
