Since July 15, 2024, four physicians from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) have been assigned to Malawi in batches to further promote the construction of “China-Africa Counterpart Hospital Cooperation Mechanism Project” in conjunction with "The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University Improves the Diagnosis and Treatment Capability of Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi".

Recently, Associate Professor Teng Yue and Physician Zhao Minyi from Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology delivered a training lecture on hysteroscopy for all medical staff in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Kamuzu Central Hospital. Associate Professor Teng Yue explained the assembly of hysteroscopic instruments, the function of each component, precautions in the use and maintenance, indications of hysteroscopy, surgical skills and treatment of complications, etc. After the lecture, all participants conducted multiple rounds of Q&A sessions.

On the morning of August 27, after careful preparation and patient selection, hysteroscopic examination and endometrial biopsy were successfully performed for a 40-year-old woman who was scheduled to undergo IVF-ET. During the operation, Associate Professor Teng Yue, along with Physician Zhao Minyi, performed explicit explanation and demonstration on the key points of the procedure, such as the assembly of various parts of hysteroscope, preoperative preparations, key points of intraoperative observation and the precautions for the use of corresponding vaginal surgical instruments. With the guidance and assistance of two experts, Dr. Pricilla completed hysteroscopic examination and successfully completed endometrial biopsy. After awakening from anesthesia, the patient had no discomfort and was successfully discharged after 30-min rest.

The successful implementation of this surgery is not only the first case of hysteroscopic surgery in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Kamuzu Central Hospital, but also marks a milestone in gynecological hysteroscopic surgery in Malawi.
