From April 12 to 14, the 11th National Congress on Pulmonary Embolism and Pulmonary Vascular Diseases hosted by the Chinese Medical Association in conjunction with the 9th International Symposium on Pulmonary Circulation Diseases were held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. Guo Yanhong, Deputy Director of Bureau of Medical Administration of National Health Commission, and Xu Hongzhi, Director of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Health Commission delivered respective speeches.
Wang Chen, Chairman of the congress, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences-Peking Union Medical College, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Overview and Academic Development Prospect of International Clinical Research Institutions in Pulmonary Vascular Diseases".
On October 13, 2018, the "National Project for Prevention and Treatment of Pulmonary Embolism and Deep Venous Thrombosis" approved by Bureau of Medical Administration of National Health Commission was officially launched. In this project, a management system for prevention and treatment of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis was constructed, active and effective risk assessment tools were adopted, effective prevention methods and strategies were formulated and the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary embolism and venous thromboembolism were standardized to alleviate the burden caused by venous thromboembolism, improve the clinical prognosis of patients, elevate the medical quality and guarantee the medical safety of hospitalized patients. In addition, systematic epidemiological and clinical studies were conducted to further explore the incidence pattern of these diseases in Chinese population and elevate the overall level of the prevention and treatment of pulmonary embolism and deep venous thrombosis in China.
More than 400 medical institutions across the country were registered to participate in this project. Ten medical institutions including the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University were awardedOutstanding Centers for Prevention and Control of Venous Thrombosisafter initial on-the-spot investigation by evaluation experts and subsequent discussion by the expert committee.
As a regional candidate center, each excellent center plays a pivotal role in promoting the hospitals in surrounding areas to establish a system for prevention and treatment of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis. Meantime, the excellent centers should continue to improve their own capabilities, strive to achieve the exemplary functions, and have the ability to receive regional visits and send experts to provide on-the-spot guidance on the work in other regional centers, eventually constructing a nationwide network for prevention and treatment of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.
Department of Peripheral Vessel of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University, led by Professor Tian Hongyan, a prestigious vascular intervention expert and Professor Liu Yamin, an academic leader of peripheral vessel, is one of the top institutions in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular diseases in China and the top professional team for the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular diseases in northwest China. Currently, it is the first batch of Training Base for Peripheral Vascular Intervention approved by National Health Commission, Base for Screening and Prevention of Stroke, Training Base for Carotid Artery Stent Implantation, the first National Demonstration Training Base for Prevention of Thrombus in the western region, National Base for Drug Clinical Trials, and a discipline authorized to confer Doctoral Degree. At present, physicians from the department are participating in the drafting of four guidelines including theGuidelines on Prevention and Treatment of Thrombosis in China.
The department features the minimally invasive interventional therapy, which has completed various types of interventional diagnosis in over 30,000 patients and interventional treatment in more than 15,000 cases. It has accomplished multiple breakthroughs and set up an influential image in the northwestern region, and has also become a prestigious institution in China.
The staff from Department of Peripheral Vessel will work together and forge ahead to obtain the first-class medical technology, healthcare services and team management, aiming to provide high-quality and efficient medical services to patients with peripheral vascular diseases.
