The 2nd International Conference of Magnetic Surgery (ICMS-2019) with the theme of "Magnetic Surgery Creates Miracles" in conjunction with the Training Conference of Clinical Application of Magnetic Surgical Technique was held in Xi 'an from April 12 to 13, 2019. This conference was hosted by Xi 'an Jiaotong University Health Science Center and organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University.
The conference mainly focused on basic research of magnetic surgery, the application of magnetic surgery in digestive surgery, vascular surgery, thoracoabdominal wall surgery, pediatric surgery and cardiovascular medicine, as well as the application of magnetic surgical instruments in minimally invasive surgery in the patterns of keynote speeches and training courses on magnetic surgical techniques,etc.
More than 100 experts and scholars engaged in magnetic surgery-related research from the United States, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Turkey and China gathered together to discuss the current development status of magnetic surgery, discuss the clinical application of magnetic surgery technique, draft the operation standards for clinical application of magnetic surgery, and determine the future development of magnetic surgery.
Yan Hong, Vice President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Lyu Yi, Assistant to the President of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Liu Qingguang, Vice President of our hospital, and Professor Huang Yizhuo from Institute of Medical Engineering of Xi 'an Jiaotong University Health Science Center were invited to attend the event. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wu Rongqian, Deputy Director of National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center for Precision Surgery and Regenerative Medicine of our hospital.
Professor Lyu Yi, Chairman of the conference, Assistant to the President of Xi' an Jiaotong University and academic leader of magnetic surgery, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 2nd International Conference of Magnetic Surgery. He pointed out that the 1st International Conference of Magnetic Surgery, organized by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University, provided a platform for gathering and communication among global researchers engaged in magnetic surgery, reached the "Xi 'an Consensus" on the magnetic surgery system, and unified the related names, definitions and application standards,etc. Meanwhile, a monograph entitled "Magnetic Surgery" is currently being drafted, making significant progresses in the clinical application of magnet-anchoring ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic surgery.
Liu Qingguang, Vice President of our hospital, congratulated the successful opening of this conference on behalf of the hospital. He stressed that the hospital is currently sparing no effort to promote the disciplinary development of clinical medicine and establish the key disciplines. Interdisciplinary cooperation plays a pivotal role. The Surgery Dreamworks team led by Professor Lyu Yi is a typical representative of our hospital. In particular, the "magnetic surgery system" advocated by the team led by Professor Lyu Yi, in which magnetic compression, magnetic anchoring, magnetic navigation and magnetic levitation techniques are innovatively applied in clinical practice, which effectively resolves clinical problems, makes greater contributions to medical innovation, accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of diseases, realizes the concept of ultra-minimally invasive treatment and demonstrates the leading position of magnetic surgery technique of our hospital within the international community.
Yan Hong, Vice President of Xi 'an Jiaotong University, warmly welcomed all the guests attending the conference on behalf of the university and Health Science Center. He highlighted that Xi 'an Jiaotong University is striving to become a double First-Class university, and the combination of medicine and engineering is one of the two vital research directions in the field of medicine. In the upcoming years, especially with the completion and launch of the Western Innovation Port, the university will offer tremendous support to develop platforms and talents for related disciplines and strive to build one of the world’s top research centers which integrate medicine and engineering as soon as possible. He also highly recognized that the team led by Professor Lyu Yi has been devoted to the research of magnetic surgery for 16 years, successively invented a series of innovative surgical techniques and related basic research, and has become a leader in the field of magnetic surgery across the world. He expected that Professor Lyu Yi's team would keep forging ahead and seize the academic high ground of magnetic surgery to make greater contributions to ordinary patients and the development of the university. Meantime, he hoped all guests attending this conference could become friends and form a worldwide circle of friends in magnetic surgery, hoping that everyone could work together to make contributions to the development of medicine around the world, especially in the field of surgery.
