On March 23, the "Experience Exchange Meeting on 100 Cases of WATCHMAN Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi 'an Jiaotong University" was jointly held by our hospital together with Boston Scientific, demonstrating 4 cases undergoing different patterns of left atrial appendage occlusion.
The meeting was held in the Catheter Room on the 5th floor of Outpatient Department. Professor Qin Yongwen, a prestigious cardiovascular expert in China from Changhai Hospital of Naval Medical University, Professor Song Zhiyuan from Southwest Hospital of Army Medical University and Professor Zhang Yushun from our hospital attended the meeting, gave special lectures and delivered surgical demonstrations, respectively. More than 30 cardiovascular intervention experts from hospitals which have established platforms for left atrial appendage intervention in Shaanxi province and northwest China also participated in the meeting.
From the perspective of big data, the experts discussed the clinical evidence-based medicine of left atrial appendage occlusion, prevention of atrial fibrillation stroke and indications of left atrial appendage occlusion, shared the experience of 100 cases of left atrial appendage occlusion in our hospital and the application value of transesophageal ultrasound during the perioperative period of left atrial appendage occlusion,etc. Meantime, 4 cases undergoing different patterns of classic left atrial appendage occlusion were presented via live demonstrations.

The left atrial appendage occlusion has been widely applied in Europe and the U.S. In 2014, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University became the first hospital in northwest China to carry out "percutaneous left atrial occlusion to prevent thromboembolism". So far, 124 operations have been successfully performed, ranking 1st among all hospitals in northwest China. Professor Zhang Yushun, the academic leader, was certified as a global teaching expert for WATCHMAN and ACP left atrial appendage occlusion. Department of Structural Heart Disease is the national base and teaching center for intervention and prevention of cardiogenic stroke. At the proposal of Director Zhang, multiple cardiovascular disciplines of the department have united to complete multiple cases of one-stop atrial fibrillation cryoballoon ablation combined with left atrial appendage occlusion, ASD in combination with left atrial appendage occlusion and mitral valve balloon dilatation combined with left atrial appendage occlusion, which enable atrial fibrillation patients to obtain surgical benefits. The operation is safe and effective, widely recognized and unanimously praised by patients and cardiovascular experts in China.
