On April 21, 2024, the kick-off meeting of clinical research project entitled Remote Ischemic Conditioning for Arteriosclerotic Acute Moderate Cerebral Infarction was held in Xi'an. This project is a prospective, multi-center, randomized, blind and parallel controlled clinical study in 40-50 centers in China, which is jointly initiated by Ji Xunming, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chairman of Professional Committee of National Project to Reduce Millions of New Disabilities, and Professor Han Jianfeng, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Chairman of Professional Committee of Shaanxi Provincial Project to Reduce Millions of New Disabilities. Project leaders including Ji Xunming and Professor Han Jianfeng, well-known experts including Professor Yu Liping, Professor Chang Mingze, Professor Wu Jun, Professor Xue Yidong, Professor Yang Xi'ai, Professor Li Hua, Professor Yuan Xiangjun and Professor Li Xue, as well as 150 project leaders and researchers from more than 80 domestic affiliations attended the meeting. Ji Xunming delivered an opening remark.

Professor Shang Suhang from FAH gave a detailed explanation of the research regimen and plan. This study is designed based on internationally recognized clinical research design plan, aiming to clarify the protective effect of remote ischemic conditioning on neurological function of patients with moderate arteriosclerotic cerebral infarction. The study is expected to complete the recruitment of 1150 patients within two years. As a large prospective, multi-center, randomized, blind and parallel controlled clinical study, the research results will provide high-quality evidence-based medical evidence for the development of acute ischemic stroke treatment.

Experts from Shaanxi province and beyond, project leaders of all medical institutions conducted in-depth discussion on the research regimen. At the same time, Professor Chang Mingze from Xi'an No.3 Hospital, Professor Dun Wanghuan and Professor Chen Chen from FAH gave intriguing lectures entitled Study of multimodal magnetic resonance imaging for stroke, Research progress in reperfusion therapy for acute ischemic stroke and Early identification and evaluation of cerebral infarction with great vessel occlusion, respectively.

As the leading affiliation, FAH carried out training on the operational details of clinical research. Physician Li Kangyue illustrated the contents and filling requirements of CRF form. Project Assistant Wu Yanru was responsible for training researchers and sharing the research process requirements of CRC. Physician Guo Bingbing and Physician Cui Yuqian illustrated the early case enrollment process on behalf of the stroke centers of tertiary and secondary hospitals, respectively.

In the concluding speech, Professor Qu Qiumin emphasized that the launching of this study is of great significance. First, it resolves the actual difficulties in clinical practice and explores more treatment measures. Second, it is designed to cultivate talents and teams for clinical research of stroke. This project will strictly conform to international clinical research norms, establish a strict quality control system, ensure the standardization of research process and yield scientific and reliable research results.
