BISC 2024, hosted by Chinese Medical Association, was held in Chengdu Century City New International Convention from April 11 to 13, 2024. The conference focused on hot topics in bacterial and fungal infection and consisted of 9 sub-venues, covering more than 60 sessions and gathering over 3,000 participants. Five cases were selected for oral presentations. Liu Yushan, a standardized training postgraduate student from Professor He Yingli’s team from Department of Infectious Diseases, shared an intriguing clinical case. As the youngest speaker, Liu Yushan shared the case report from the perspectives of medical history, physical examination upon admission, imaging examination and diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment, follow-up and prognosis, and summarized the experience and reflection of this case.

Liu Yushan participated in clinical management of a patient with cutaneous anthrax during her rotation to Department of Infectious Diseases, the first case of this kind admitted to Department of Infectious Diseases in recent 20 years. Under the leadership of Director He Yingli, the patient was successfully treated and discharged after coordinated efforts and hard work by physicians and nurses. At that time, Liu Yushan, during her rotation to Department of Infectious Diseases, served as the ward physician for this patient. As a graduate student from Department of Infectious Diseases, Liu Yushan actively delivered clinical management for this patient. After discharge, Liu Yushan conducted long-term follow-up with the patient and collected the patient’s skin photos to observe the changes of skin lesions. Under the guidance of Director He Yingli and PhD Yan Taotao, Liu Yushan carefully summarized clinical data of this rare case, studied relevant guidelines and literature, and drafted a medical case in Chinese, which was included in Chinese Medical Case Repository. In addition, a case report was written from this case and published in Infection and Drug Resistance, a SCI-indexed journal. Liu Yushan also summarized the experience of patient management, reviewed the latest research progress and wrote a review article entitled "New Progress in Diagnosis and Treatment of Anthrax", which was revised and reviewed by Professor Zhang Wenhong, and finally published in Chinese Journal of Infectious Diseases.
