From April 11 to 13, 2024, Professor Giovanni Marchegiani from University of Padova in Italy, Secretary of International Study Group of Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS), was invited to visit Pancreatic Disease Treatment Center of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), deliver academic presentation, conduct exchange activities, observe the demonstration of pancreatic surgery in the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of XJTU and discuss international cooperation.Professor Giovanni Marchegiani currently serves as Director Department of Pancreatic Surgery, and holds important academic positions in multiple top academic organizations in the field of pancreatic surgery worldwide, including Secretary of ISGPS, the top-notched academic organization of pancreatic surgery, Member of Medical Quality Working Group of United European Gastroenterology (UEG), Member of the Executive and Education Committee of European Digestive Surgery Society (EDS), Chairman of the Member Committee of the European-African Hepatopancreatobiliary Association (EAHPBA), and Chairman of European Pancreatic Club (EPC)–European Young Pancreatologists (YOUPPIE).

On the afternoon of April 11, Professor Wang Zheng, Assistant-to-President and Director of Medical Department, accompanied Professor Giovanni Marchegiani to visit the basic research laboratory and Biobank of Pancreatic Disease Treatment Center. Subsequently, Professor Giovanni Marchegiani gave an academic presentation on the development of ISGPS and the complications of pancreatic surgery, and had academic discussion and exchanges with the core members of Pancreatic Disease Treatment Center regarding current bottlenecks in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic diseases and treatment strategies, expressing recognition and appreciation for the achievements made by the Center in acute severe pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Subsequently, Professor Wu Zheng, Director of Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, presented the letter of appointment to Professor Giovanni Marchegiani as a Visiting Professor.

From April 12 to 13, Professor Giovanni Marchegiani observed the extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy, endoscopic ultrasonography and puncture biopsy of pancreatic duct stones, spleen-preserving laparoscopic pancreatectomy and pancreatoduodenectomy via arterial approach in the Pancreatic Disease Treatment Center. He highly recognized the "one-stop" and "full-course" diagnosis and treatment mode of the Center, and stressed that clinical diagnosis and treatment capabilities of pancreatic diseases of XJTU have reached international first-class levels.

Professor Giovanni Marchegiani's academic visit will promote academic exchange and cooperation in clinical research in the Center, strengthen international influence of Pancreatic Disease Treatment Center of XJTU, and contribute to building FAH into National Medical Center.
