Summit Forum for Diagnosis and Treatment of Thyroid Cancer in conjunction with THUNDERBEAT-Open Fine Jaw China-Japan Exchange Conference, presided over by Zhang Shaoqiang, director of Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, was successfully held in Xi’an. Experts from Japan and China attended this summit forum.
On the first day of the forum, bilateral experts discussed major issues in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer. Professor Qiu Ming from Shanghai Changzheng Hospital shared his skills and experience in the application of energy instruments into thyroid surgery. Professor Wataru Kitagawa, director of Department of Diagnostic and Treatment Technique from Ito Hospital in Japan, introduced Japanese guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules and shared relevant data of evidence-based medicine. Director Zhang Shaoqiang shared his thoughts on hot topics, such as the standard diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer and the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric thyroid cancer through the diagnosis and treatment of a special case of thyroid cancer. Professor Tang Xiaojiang from Oncology Department of our hospital shared his experience in protecting the parathyroid glands. Professor Bao Guoqiang from Tangdu Hospital discussed the endoscopic thyroidectomy. Finally, several experts delivered a panel discussion on the diagnosis and treatment of a patient with thyroid nodule, which covered the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid papillary carcinoma, the scope and selection basis of cervical lymph node dissection, the protection of recurrentlaryngeal nerve, superior laryngeal nerve and parathyroid glands, and postoperative nuclide therapy for thyroid papillary carcinoma,etc.
On the second day, thanks to the seamless cooperation with Department of Anesthesia and General Surgery, the surgeons from Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery simultaneously demonstrated four cases of thyroid operations, including endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast approach, cervical lymph node dissection and giant thyroidectomy,etc. Professor Yu Jichun from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University demonstrated the procedures of classic thyroidectomy and central lymph node dissection. Professor Wang Yu from Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center delivered a demonstration of complete resection of complex thyroid cancer and neck lymph node dissection. Bai Yanxia, professor of Department of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery demonstrated the total thyroidectomy for huge goiter. Professor Qu Kunpeng from Gansu Provincial Hospital demonstrated endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast approach. Intraoperatively, Director Zhang Shaoqiang and Professor Qiu Ming simultaneously illustrated the operation procedures and surgical skills. The live webcasting of thyroid surgery accompanied by simultaneous explanation attracted over 5000 viewers, offering the latest concepts, classic approaches and developmental trends of thyroid surgery. Besides, newly-designed surgical instruments complimented the selection of devices for thyroid surgeons.
During this summit forum, bilateral experts comprehensively discuss the diagnosis, treatment, surgical skills through specific cases of malignant thyroid tumors, exchange ideas on the guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules and evidence-based medicine between bilateral sides, and conduct live webcasting demonstrations of thyroid surgery, which significantly promotes the standardization of thyroidectomy techniques and strengthens academic exchanges between China-Japan experts.
This summit forum plays a significant role in driving the development of standards and techniques of thyroid surgery in Shaanxi Province.
