On December 17, 2023, annual work meeting of Expert Group on Thyroid Diseases of Professional Committee of Intervention of Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center of National Health Commission was held. Department of Ultrasound Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was approved as one of the first-batch Minimally Invasive Thyroid Intervention Continuing Education and Training Base in China. Director Ruan Litao served as Member of Expert Group on Thyroid Diseases, signifying that minimally invasive interventional diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases in FAH have reached leading levels in China.

To thoroughly implement the strategy of Healthy China, vigorously promote capacity building of national clinical specialties during the 14^th Five-Year Plan and accelerate high-quality development of public hospitals, Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center of National Health Commission selected a batch of Minimally Invasive Thyroid Intervention Continuing Education and Training Base from national high-quality medical institutions, further strengthened professional capability and service level of minimally invasive intervention-related teams nationwide, and drived the development of minimally invasive intervention. After multi-round screening and evaluation, the first batch of 9 Minimally Invasive Thyroid Intervention Continuing Education and Training Base were finally approved, and Department of Ultrasound Medicine of FAH is also the only approved base in Shaanxi province.

In recent years, under the leadership of Director Ruan Litao, Department of Ultrasound Medicine has made significant progress in minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases. The department can routinely conduct ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy of thyroid and lymph nodes, radiofrequency ablation of thyroid nodules, aspiration and sclerotherapy of thyroid cystic nodules, etc. The department has been committed to promotion and standardization of interventional ultrasound technology, has held 6 sessions of Professional Training Course for thyroid FNA, 8 sessions of Training Course for Ultrasound-guided Biopsy and Catheterization, aiming to promote widespread application of advanced technologies and contribute to disciplinary development of minimally invasive thyroid interventional ultrasound and talent training.
