From December 14 to 16, 2023, the 17th Annual Meeting of Chinese Ophthalmologist Association of Chinese Medical Doctor Association (COA 2023), co-hosted by Chinese Medical Doctor Association (CMDA) and COA of CMDA, and co-organized by the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Ophthalmologist Branch of Shaanxi Medical Doctor Association, was held in Xi’an. The 4th Chang'an Symposium of Ophthalmology (CSO 2023) was simultaneously held on December 16, 2023.
The opening ceremony was co-chaired by Professor Pei Cheng, Director of Department of Ophthalmology of FAH, and Professor Liu Wu from Beijing Tongren Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University.
Wang Ningli, President of COA 2023 and President of COA of CMDA announced the opening of the annual meeting and delivered a speech. Shi Shengfeng, Deputy Party Secretary of CMDA, Ms. Zhao Lan, Deputy Director of Health Commission of Shaanxi Province and President of Shaanxi Medical Doctor Association, and Feng Guanglin, Deputy Party Secretary of FAH of XJTU were invited to attend the annual meeting and deliver speeches, respectively.
Xie Lixin, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Honorary Director of Shandong Eye Institute, Fan Xianqun, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Professor Yao Ke, Chairman of Chinese Society of Ophthalmology of Chinese Medical Association, and Professor Sun Xinghuai, Chairman-designate of Chinese Society of Ophthalmology of Chinese Medical Association, were invited to attend COA 2023 and gave keynote speeches, respectively.
COA 2023 comprises a main venue, 11 sub-venues and 74 academic sessions, with more than 900 speakers. All participants delivered academic exchanges in multiple forms of invited reports, keynote speeches, special seminars, case discussions and surgical demonstrations, etc. Twenty members from Department of Ophthalmology of FAH gave presentations, and 78 volunteers were organized to participate in service support for COA 2023.
At CSO 2023, Professor Wang Ningli, Honorary Director of Department of Ophthalmology of FAH of XJTU, Professor Xu Xun, Vice President of COA of CMDA and Head of Fundus Disease Group, Bi Hongsheng, an expert in cataract, Professor Wang Yan, Head of Refractive Surgery Group, Professor Wei Shihui, Head of Neuroophthalmology Group, and Professor Gong Lan from Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University were invited to give keynote speeches, respectively. Eleven backbones from Department of Ophthalmology of FAH conducted academic exchanges with ophthalmologists nationwide, fully demonstrating symbolic characteristic technology and innovative work of the discipline, highlighting academic influence of CSO in northwest China, and making active exploration and practice to promote homogenized development of ophthalmology in Shaanxi province and even across China.
