To promote the development of clinical research and the translation of medical research results in the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), the appointment ceremony for Wang Duolao as a Visiting Professor of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery was held in Science and Education Building on the afternoon of December 21, 2023. Vice President Han Jianfeng, Zhang Guangjian, Director of Department of Human Resources, Wang Yawen, Director of Biobank, Wang Rui, Director of Publicity Department and medical staff from Clinical Research Center, Biobank and Department of Cardiovascular Surgery attended the appointment ceremony.

Vice President Han Jianfeng highlighted that in recent years, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in FAH has made certain achievements in clinical and scientific research, especially the research and development of "XJTU procedure" has further strengthened international influence of vascular anastomosis techniques in FAH. Professor Wang Duolao is a top-notched expert in the field of global clinical research, hoping that Professor Wang's participation can assist our hospital to realize integrated development of research, teaching and medicine.

Professor Wang Duolao is an internationally-renowned clinical research expert. He is currently a professor in biostatistics at Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a statistical consultant of Lancet. His team has made significant achievements in multiple fields, such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, etc. He has published more than 340 papers, including 8 in NEJM, 7 in Lancet, 5 in Lancet affiliated journals, 5 in JAMA, 6 in EHJ, 4 in Circulation and 5 in JACC, with a total citation of over 38,000 times, and H-index of 73. He proposed Win Ratio statistical analysis method, which has been cited by papers published in medical journals, such as NEJM, Lancet and JAMA for many times.

Professor Wang Duolao stressed that among dozens of large hospitals he cooperated with, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery in FAH is the only department that includes randomized controlled clinical research into surgical field. He hoped to dedicate his research experience to help FAH achieve breakthrough results.

Director Yan Yang highlighted that Professor Wang Duolao's joining can help Department of Cardiovascular Surgery make full use of the advantages of international exchange and cooperation, resolve the problems encountered in clinical research, push the department’s clinical research to world-class levels, strengthen disciplinary influence and reputation, and contribute to the construction of National Medical Center in FAH.
