At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Mr. Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi led a delegation to China for attending the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. On September 1st, Mr. Mutharika and his delegation of 5 people arrived in Shaanxi Province for a visit. With the accompany of Wei Zengjun, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, Yao Hongjuan, Director General of Shaanxi Foreign Affairs Office , Liu Hongyang, Chinese Ambassador to Republic of Malawi and Wang Lei, Counselor of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of People's Republic of China, President Mutharika and his delegation paid a visit to the First Affiliated hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University on 2th, September. Yan Hong, Vice President of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shi Bingyin, President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University，Ma Xinge, Party Committee Secretary of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University and She Junjun, Assistant to the President met the delegations.
President Shi Bingyin extended a warm welcome to President Mutharika for leading a delegation to visit the hospital. Firstly, President Shi Bingyin gave a brief introduction about the hospital’s history and highlighted the hospital’s medical assistance team to the African countries since 1971. Meanwhile, the remarkable achievements made by the hospital in the Practice and exploration of promoting hierarchical medical system in recent years were also presented by president Shi Bingyin. Then President Mutharika and his delegation visited Neonatology Department, Obstetrics and Gynecology Department and other departments of the hospital, where they got a better understanding about the currant situation of maternal and child health care in China.
While visiting the Remote Medical Consultation Center, President Mutharika showed great interest in intelligent telemedicine and highly appraised the use of modern technological to improve the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment for patients. During the visit, President Mutharika also had a friendly communication with professor Yang Yuandong of Anesthesia Department, professor Liu Li of Neonatology Department and professor Li Xuelan of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department who had participated in the medical aid programs to Malawi.
Recently, 5 doctors from Malawi are receiving medical training in Neonatology Department and the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of the hospital. President Mutharika and his delegation communicated with these doctors. President Mutharika expressed the delight when he was informed that these 5 doctors are receiving comprehensive clinic training in the hospital. And he told the students to study hard and bring advanced medical technology back to Malawi so as to make more Malawi people access to high-level medical care.
President Mutharika expressed that China is a good friend and partner of Malawi and he was very glad to visit the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University，saying he hoped for deepened cooperation with the hospital in field of medical technology, scientific research and talent cultivation.
