Recently, Health Commission of Shaanxi Province issued the Work Plan for Medical Service and Support Capacity Improvement (Health Institution Capacity Building) Project 2022. Departments of Hematology, Neurology and Psychiatry in the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) were approved as National Key Clinical Specialty Construction Project. Up to now, 20 specialties in FAH have been approved as National Key Clinical Specialty (including construction project). FAH ranks 1^st among all tertiary hospitals in northwest China regarding the number of this project.

Department of Neurology and Department of Psychiatry were appointed by Health Commission of Shaanxi Province to take the lead in building National Regional Medical Center for Neurology and National Regional Medical Center for Psychiatry, and Department of Hematology was appointed to jointly build National Regional Medical Center for Hematology. The approval of National Key Clinical Specialty Construction Project will provide potent support for the FAH to construct National Regional Medical Center.

According to "National Clinical Specialty Capacity Building Plan during the 14^th Five-Year Plan" proposed by National Health Commission and "Guiding Opinions on Promoting Clinical Specialty Capacity Building", the FAH will build a high-level cluster of National Key Clinical Specialty covering major clinical specialties and major diseases-related specialties and meeting the requirement of regional medical resources, emphasize improving the capability and level of diagnosis and treatment for difficult and severe diseases, enhance the levels of overall medical service capacity, quality and safety and create a new pattern of clinical specialty construction and development in northwest China, aiming to build a more accessible and safer medical service system for patients in this region.
