The ward rounds are the basis of the standardized teaching activities in clinical medicine education, and the standardized teaching activities are the first step of the Accreditation of Clinical Medicine Education. To further improve the Accreditation of Clinical Medicine Education, a distinctive ward round, the ward round teaching of international students, was launched on the morning of August 8, 2018 in the Department of Infectious Diseases. All of teachers and students were involved in the case reports, reviews, discussions, questions and answers in English throughout the course.

After careful preparations, the ward round teaching of international students led by Prof. Liu Zhengwen involved all of international student interns and all Chinese interns. Firstly, Prof. Liu and the interns greeted the patients and their families, introduced the purpose of this ward round and got the cooperation from the patients and their families. Then, international student interns conducted the case reports, including patients’ current medical history, family history, past medical history and epidemiological history, etc. and then the complete abdominal examination was performed. Prof. Liu commented on and mentored the reports and physical examinations bedside. Finally, all of interns discussed together and put forward their questions. Prof. Liu answered questions one by one and summarized the whole ward round that the international students showed better skills in history-taking while Chinese students were more standardized in physical examination during this ward round.

Director Zhao Yingren, Deputy Director He Yingli and other members of the department also attended the ward round. Director Zhao said that this ward round not only strengthened the exchange and cooperation between international students and Chinese students but also promoted the implementation of the Accreditation of Clinical Medicine Education in the Department of Infectious Diseases. A series of ward round teaching activities would be held to better promote the Accreditation of Clinical Medicine Education in the future.
