On August 18, 2018, Professor Zhang Quan, Director of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and NSG Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of Harvard Medical School, gave an academic lecture to the Rehabilitation Medicine Department of the Hospital Area of Daxingshan Temple at the invitation of Rehabilitation Medicine Department.

Professor Zhang Quan, an expert on biomedical engineering of Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School and also one of the faculties of the Aerospace Medicine Center of Baylor College of Medicine, received the doctorate of Biomedical Engineering in Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1997 and then completed the post-doctoral research in Radiology Department of University of Pennsylvania and Massachusetts General Hospital. With about 20 years of experience in near-infrared researches, he had applied several patents on wearable functional neuroimaging, wearable cuffless blood pressure monitoring and other fields, and mainly engaged in research in the following fields such as diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs), psychosomatic medicine and aerospace health.

As some studies conducted in Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of Harvard Medical School are in international forefront of work in relevant research fields, especially the portable and instantaneity nature of wearable functional neuroimaging and blood pressure and brain self-regulation flow monitoring equipment, objective and precise bases are provided for obtaining vital signs of patients and preventing and predicting disease progression if they are widely applied in the clinic.

Professor Zhang Quan delivered a special report with the title ofWearable Functional Imaging and Physiological Monitoring Technologies and Applications, which raised the intense reaction from participating professors and clinicians. They all showed great interest in wearable functional imaging monitoring equipment and its application and made in-depth discussion and exchange about its value of application to clinical diseases and close interdisciplinarity and connection with rehabilitation medicine. Then Professor Zhang Quan introduced his laboratory research fields, international patents and the latest scientific research progress. In addition, Professor Zhang introduced the physical signs monitoring of healthy persons and in American aerospace researches, then explained reasons for the invention of wearable functional imaging and monitoring technologies and continuous upgrade and optimization of the equipment. What's more, he proposed potential mechanisms such as meditation and other methods regulating spirit and psychological states in psychology and Buddhist practice and their clinical application prospects.
