From April 30 to May 3, 2023, Deputy Director Li Meng and Deputy Chief Physician Ji Wenchen from the orthopedic trauma team of the First Affiliated Hospital (FAH) of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) were invited to Department of Orthopedics of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) for academic exchange. Subsequently, they attended the 23rd World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2023) from May 4 to 7 in Barcelona, Spain.
Professor Wolfgang Böcker is Director of Department of Orthopedics at LMU, enjoying high reputation in the field of traumatic orthopedics. This time, he invited the team led by Li Meng for academic exchange, hoping to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism between bilateral sides. During the 4-day academic exchange, the orthopedic trauma team participated in the morning conference and shift, ward round and operation in Department of Orthopedics of the Affiliated Hospital of LMU, and learned and exchanged the cutting-edge technologies and concepts of traumatic orthopedics. In the morning conference, Ji Wenchen introduced the research progress upon clinical diagnosis, treatment and scientific research in Department of Orthopedics of the FAH, receiving positive recognition from Germany counterparts. Bilateral sides looked forward to in-depth cooperation in clinical research, student training and physician exchange visiting, etc.
On the evening of May 3, Li Meng and Ji Wenchen headed for Barcelona in Spain to attend WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2023, which was jointly organized by International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO). Nearly 4,000 participants worldwide attended WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2023, which is one of the most authoritative congresses in the field of prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and bone diseases. At this congress, the orthopedic trauma team conducted on-site communication with global experts and contributed poster presentation, and learned internationally advanced diagnosis, treatment and therapeutic concepts of osteoporotic fractures. These study and exchange activities play a positive role in carrying out prevention and treatment of osteoporotic fractures back in China.
